The Peyton Manning Era for the Denver Broncos began with a victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers and it will look to begin a winning streak on Monday Night Football when the team travels to face the Atlanta Falcons (1-0). The last time these teams met came in 2008, with the Broncos winning in Atlanta, 24-20.
That, however, was a different era for the Broncos. Jay Cutler was under center and Mike Shanahan was on the sidelines. Now it's Peyton Manning and John Fox in those roles and John Elway the man upstairs in the front office. Manning's debut saw him complete 19 of 26 passes for 253 yards and two touchdowns. Fifteen of those completions were divided equally between receivers Demaryius Thomas (115 yards) and Eric Decker (54) and former Colts teammate Jacob Tamme (43 yards).
The Falcons dominated the Kansas City Chiefs for a 40-24 victory during Week 1. After the Chiefs briefly tied the game at 17-all in the second quarter, the Falcons went on to score 23 straight points. Kansas City finally put points on the board again with just five second remaining in the game. Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan threw for 299 yards and three touchdown passes. Receiver Julio Jones picked up 108 of those yards in the air.
