Every team enters training camp with position battles at multiple spots on the roster, and this year the Denver Broncos are no exception. Stability at the top of the roster on offense with Peyton Manning has been the dominant story during the offseason, but now the focus will shift to emerging competitions at running back, right guard, defensive tackle, weakside linebacker and strong safety.

Mike Klis of The Denver Post kept an eye on which players lined up with the starting units during the first day of camp, which may offer some insight into which guys have an early leg up on their teammates in the eyes of the coaching staff. Here is how the battles shaped up on the first day, according to Klis:

• RB: Lance Ball lined up with the second team offense, Willis McGahee played with the starters and Knowshon Moreno sat out.
• RG: Manny Ramirez lined up with the starters with Chris Kuper sat out.
• DT: Mitch Unrein played alongside Ty Warren with the No. 1 defense
• WLB: With D.J. Williams suspended by the league, Wesley Woodyard played with the starters
• SS: Quinton Carter played with the backups while Mike Adams lined up next to FS Rahim Moore in the No. 1 unit.
