Denver Broncos kicker Matt Prater has a brand-new contract on Monday afternoon, and it appears that he got everything he wanted out of a long-term extension. His new contract was originally reported as being four years long. The monetary value of the deal is now known to be at $13 million with a $3 million signing bonus, according to Jeff Legwold of the Denver Post.
Prater will now make over $3 million a year and play half of his games in Sports Authority Field, certainly a good place for any kicker. In 2011, Prater was 10-of-12 at Mile High, missing on an attempt in the 20-29 range and at 50-plus. All four of his 40-49 range misses came on the road, finishing 3-of-7 there. He could certainly stand to improve there, but with Peyton Manning, the Broncos should be able to move ball down the field more effectively than when Tim Tebow was under center.
