The Denver Broncos have signed fullback Austin Sylvester, as the team announced on Wednesday. Sylvester was on Denver's active roster for two games during the 2011 season, including the AFC Wild Card game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he spent another five weeks on the team's practice squad.
Sylvester wasn't drafted in 2011 after playing for the University of Washington in college, where he spent a good deal of time playing special teams before emerging as the primary fullback during his senior year. He never appeared in an NFL game during his rookie season, despite being active twice.
He spent a short amount of time on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' practice squad early last season, but now Sylvester will be a Bronco for the foreseeable future. Denver has been using Spencer Larsen at fullback frequently, although he also spends time at linebacker as the rare two-way player.
