Knowshon Moreno Arrest: Broncos RB Likely Puts Future With Team In Doubt

The Denver Broncos might need to make running back more of a priority in the upcoming 2012 NFL Draft or in free agency with the arrest of Knowshon Moreno. Moreno, who was charged with careless driving and failing to have insurance, was likely to come back with the Broncos following his torn ACL back in November, but this arrest now puts that in doubt. While he is under contract through 2013 (with a club option in 2014), Moreno has had a history of injuries as well as a failure to crack the 1,000-yard mark in any of his three seasons so far. He has been a huge disappointment since Josh McDaniels took him with the 12th overall pick in 2009.

As we saw in SB Nation's latest 2012 NFL mock draft the Broncos do go with Miami Hurricanes running back Lamar Miller at pick No. 25. It certainly was an area of concern before this arrest. Willis McGahee won't be able to last that much longer if he needs to run as much as he did in 2011, which came about because Moreno was unproductive.

However, running backs such as Miller, Boise State's Doug Martin and Virginia Tech's David Wilson have been projected anywhere from the first through third rounds several months before the draft.

Knowshon Moreno Arrest: Broncos RB Charged With Careless Driving And Failing To Have Insurance

Some additional details surrounding Knowshon Moreno's Feb. 1 arrest have emerged, courtesy the Denver Post:

Police gave Moreno a breath test and a field sobriety test, and took Moreno to a detox facility. He was charged with failing to have insurance and careless driving.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on March 2, court records state.

The Broncos running back was speeding through a construction zone in his Bentley convertible -- which has a vanity plate that reads "SAUCED" -- when he was pulled over by police. The officer smelled alcohol and then administered a sobriety test, which Moreno failed.

It is unknown at this time how this incident might affect Moreno's future with the Denver Broncos; in a statement Monday, the team said it is "thoroughly reviewing this matter."
