2012 NFL Mock Draft: Alabama S Mark Barron Goes To Denver Broncos In SB Nation's Latest Projection

Stay connected for news and updates

In the upcoming 2012 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos could stand to look at taking a defensive back with its first round pick (No. 25). As we saw all too much in Saturday's loss to the New England Patriots, the Broncos have huge concerns in the secondary. Outside of Champ Bailey there was no one of substance playing back there for the most part. Rookie Quinton Carter has done all right, but David Bruton clearly showed why he is a special teams player filling in for the injured Brian Dawkins. That's why Ryan Van Bibber predicts in his latest 2012 NFL mock draft that the Broncos will draft Alabama Crimson Tide safety Mark Barron.

The Broncos do need to bring in another hard-hitting safety, as Van Bibber acknowledges, since Dawkins will turn 39 during the 2012 season and has a neck injury that could force him to retire. But we'll need to find out more about Dawkins' future as the offseason goes on.

The Broncos might want to draft offense, depending on how the draft board plays out. Miami Hurricanes running back Lamar Miller has been a popular pick for the Broncos as well. Still, there are numerous directions the team will go with and we know John Elway and John Fox won't shy away from drafting their best player available, position irrelevant.
