2011 American Century Championship Results: Jack Wagner Captures 2nd Victory At Lake Tahoe; Joe Sakic Sinks Hole-In-One

The 2011 American Century Celebrity Golf Championship began the way it ended: with Jack Wagner in the lead. This is Wagner's second victory at Lake Tahoe, previously winning the 2006 tournament. 2011 American Century Championship Update: Can Jack Wagner Hold Off Tony Romo?

The 2011 American Century Championship at Lake Tahoe comes to a conclusion on Sunday afternoon. Jack Wagner, best known for his roles on Melrose Place and other soap operas, enters the final round with 52 points and the lead, which he has held since the first day on Friday. Wagner won this tournament back in 2006 with 70 points. It looks like he could break his points from that tournament on Sunday.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo will try to make a Sunday comeback, as he is in second place with 46 points. He was considered one of the favorites to win before the tournament started. Chris Chandler, 2007's winner, is third with 42 points, which potentially has him in the hunt. But barring a collapse by Jack Wagner, it's his to lose.

NBC's coverage of the event will begin at 1 p.m. MT and last until 4 p.m. MT. Tee times begin around 9 a.m. MT.

2011 American Century Championship Leaderboard, Tee Times: Jack Wagner Leads After 1st Round, Tim Tebow Far Down

The first round of the 2011 American Century Championship is over, and just as he predicted, Tim Tebow is already far out of contention with a score of -5 points. This tournament uses the Stableford scoring system, which gives points for each outcome on a hole. A par provides one point, a birdie three points, a bogey zero points and so on. So negative numbers in this tournament are not what one wants to see.

Tebow is doing better than the other members of his group: Herm Edwards is at -15 and Jimmer Fredette is at -30. In terms of places, Tebow is 65th, Edwards is 76th and Fredette is tied for 83rd out of 85 competitors. Fredette is tied with Charles Barkley of all golfers. Barkley, of course, is known for his awkward golf swing.

Here is the current top five leaderboard (full one here):

1. Jack Wagner +29
T2. Jeremy Roenick +24
T2. Chris Chandler +24
4. Mike Modano +20
T5. Tony Romo +19
T5. Rick Rhoden +19

John Elway is tied for ninth at 17 points with four others. Defending champ Billy Joe Tolliver is tied for 17th with 14 points.

2011 American Century Championship Tee Times: John Elway, Tim Tebow Ready For Friendly Competition

The 2011 American Century Championship begins play on Friday, and Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo and three-time winner Billy Joe Tolliver, the 2010 champ, are favorites to win this tournament. Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow, a first-time participant, has already conceded his chance at winning:

"It's hard to accept that I don't have a chance before I get started," said Tebow. "I'm competitive and I'll try my hardest, but I don't practice and I don't take lessons. I really just enjoy going out and betting against my brother (Robby). Some day, I'll find time to practice and get good at this game."

But he'll still give it a go--you just won't see him paired with Broncos VP John Elway with the NFL Lockout still in place. Tebow and Elway will be in different groups so the league-imposed rules on its officials will be kept. But if the two happen to meet on the course they can still make small talk (see Mark Cuban and his Mavericks at the 2011 ESPYs).

Here are some notable tee times:

10:55 a.m. MT - Matt Cassel, Matt Schaub, Carson Palmer
11:00 a.m. MT - Joe Sakic, Martin Brodeur, Goose Gossage
11:35 a.m. MT - Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith, Jerome Bettis
12:15 p.m. MT - Michael Jordan, Tony Romo, John Elway
12:25 p.m. MT - Rick Rhoden, Jack Wagner, Billy Joe Tolliver
12:35 p.m. MT - Tim Tebow, Jimmer Fredette, Herm Edwards

First round coverage is on VERSUS from 2-5 p.m. MT.

2011 American Century Golf Tournament: Tim Tebow, John Elway In Celebrity Championship

The 2011 American Century Championship at Lake Tahoe gets underway on Thursday, July 14, and Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow is scheduled to make his first appearance at the tournament. Former Colorado kicker Mason Crosby and former Colorado Avalanche captain Joe Sakic will be there as well.

There will also be several current NFL executives and head coaches at the tournament, which means they most likely asked for and received permission from the league to partake in a tournament in which several players will be there. For Tim Tebow, that means he will see John Elway. For the Chief's Matt Cassel, his coach Todd Haley will be there. And former Denver Broncos coach and current one of the Washington Redskins Mike Shanahan is a participant. Here is a full roster of celebrities who accepted invites.

Major League Hall of Fame and Colorado Springs' Goose Gossage will be a first-rime attendee, but we all know that everyone really wants to see Charles Barkley and his famous swing.
