Broncos Considered Trading Back Into 1st Round For Nick Fairley, According To Report

Though the Denver Broncos ultimately selected just Von Miller on the first day of the NFL Draft, the team did give some thought to moving back into the first round for a defensive tackle. According to Mike Klis of the Denver Post, the Broncos discussed the possibility of drafting Nick Fairley, who dropped to No. 13 in the draft for the Detroit Lions.

But John Elway, John Fox and Brian Xanders, however, decided that giving up picks 36, 46 and 67 was too costly. It would have left the Broncos without a draft pick until the sixth round.

Had the Broncos decided to take that chance, they would have won the first round. A pass-rusher in Von Miller and then a nasty defensive tackle in Fairley? That's a killer combination. So now, there will always be that question of what could have been.

As it stands, the Broncos will need to wade into the free agent pool for a defensive tackle, but there isn't a big name out there (when FA does start).
