Mel Kiper, Mike Mayock Had Most Correct 1st Round Picks In Mock Drafts

Stay connected for news and updates

First round NFL mock drafts are notoriously chewed up once the actual NFL Draft begins, and that won't stop people from breaking down those mock drafts after the fact. In fact, Real Clear Sports kept track of 12 mock drafts from the top NFL draft prognosticators, and Mel Kiper and Mike Mayock each had nine correct 1st round draft picks.

But I'm not sure of the utility of breaking it down after that. Either you projected the pick correctly or you didn't. If you take a look at the chart RCS provides, most of the misses came within a 3-5 pick range. Kiper had 11 picks that fell within 3-5 picks of where he projected them. And after that the second range of missed picks was in 6-9 spots off the mark.

Both Kiper and Mayock predicted the Broncos' selection of Von Miller  at No. 2 and Cam Newton at No. 1, so that was basically two guaranteed correct picks.

Time to get crackin' on those 2012 mock drafts.
