NFL Draft 2012: John Elway Hopes Tim Tebow Is 'That Guy,' Will Likely Avoid Quarterback Early In Draft

While many Denver Broncos fans are pretty sure that Tim Tebow is the starting quarterback for the team in 2012, neither head coach John Fox nor executive vice president have explicitly stated that Tebow has the position. And even John Elway's most recent comments to Associated Press reporter Arnie Stapleton are a mild endorsement for Tebow in 2012:

"Tim Tebow's not going anywhere," Elway said. "I mean, he's going to be a Bronco and we're going to do everything we can and hopefully he's that guy."

That's probably the closest we'll find Elway endorsing Tebow's future as starting quarterback, but it does also seem to mean that the team isn't considering using a high draft pick on a quarterback in April's draft to compete with Tebow to be the starter. The Broncos are looking at a pick somewhere in the 20s unless they lose the last two games of the season or make it all the way to the Super Bowl. Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III and Matt Barkley all likely to be taken within the top 10 picks.

Better yet, the Broncos should look for a quarterback in the mid to late rounds that can be developed as a backup who can run the system if Tebow for some reason is unable to play. Right now, the Broncos would need to go to a different playbook if Tebow got injured and Brady Quinn needed to play.
