NFL Draft 2012: Miami's Lamar Miller Compared To Former Denver Broncos RB Clinton Portis

One of the things draft analysts like to do is compare prospects to current NFL players who attended that school. We've heard all about Andrew Luck and John Elway at Stanford. Down in Florida, Miami Hurricanes redshirt sophomore Lamar Miller is garnering comparisons to former Hurricane and Denver Broncos Clinton Portis, according to Russ Lande of the Sporting News:

From everything we have seen on film and heard from scouts, Miller is a similar athlete to former Hurricanes back Clinton Portis, but Miller is not as aggressive a runner as Portis was.

Portis, as we recall, fell to the second round in the 2002 draft and was selected behind the likes of William Green, T.J. Duckett and DeShaun Foster before his name was called with the 51st overall selection.

Miller ran for 1,272 yards and nine touchdowns in 2011, and Lande believes Miller's speed and burst-through ability will make him a first round pick. Depending on where the Broncos are selecting, Miller could be worth a look at. Knowshon Moreno is likely gone and while Willis McGahee has turned his career back on the right track, he will be 31 years olf next season and not getting any younger.
