Knowshon Moreno Injury Update: Broncos RB Reportedly Healing Well

Although he hasn't quite lived up to the hype that he had coming out of college, Knowshon Moreno proved to be a valuable asset to the Denver Broncos this season, as he and Willis McGahee combined to form a quality RB duo. However, Moreno saw his season come to an end prematurely, as he injured his knee in the 17-10 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on November 13.

According to Pro Football Weekly, Moreno continues to heal following the surgery for his Torn ACL and all indications are that he will return to the team in 2012:

Broncos RB Knowshon Moreno is healing well from the knee surgery he underwent in November after suffering a torn ACL. According to a team insider, Moreno is likely to return in 2012, though not with a very big role. His salary-cap number is fairly low next season, so there is little risk in keeping the former first-round pick on the roster to see how he recovers from the injury.

Prior to his injury, Moreno had rushed for 179 yards on 37 carries. Moreno also proved to be a decent receiving threat out of the backfield, pulling in 11 receptions for 101 yards and a TD.

Jeremiah Johnson Signed To Denver Broncos Active Roster, Xavier Omon Added To Practice Squad

The Denver Broncos wasted no time in signing a replacement for Knowshon Moreno, who was placed on injured reserve for a torn ACL suffered against the Kansas City Chiefs. The team announced that Jeremiah Johnson was signed from the practice squad to the active roster. Johnson was promoted to the active roster earlier in the season when Moreno was out with a short-term injury, but he didn't see any action against the Cincinnati Bengals and returned to the practice squad after that contest.

To take his place on the practice squad, the Broncos signed Xavier Omon. Omon had previously worked out for the Broncos a couple of days after Willis McGahee broke his hand. At the time, though, the Broncos held off signing any replacement player.

Knowshon Moreno Injury: Denver Broncos RB Tears ACL In Victory Over Kansas City Chiefs

Denver Broncos running back Knowshon Moreno has been lost for the year, announced head coach John Fox on Monday afternoon (via the Denver Post). Moreno tore his ACL in Sunday's victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, rushing only four times for 52 yards. He began the day with a 24-yard rush. An MRI revealed the tear.

Moreno will be placed on injured reserve, officially ending his season. The team is likely to promote Jeremiah Johnson from the practice squad, giving the back his second stint on the active roster this season. Willis McGahee is expected to be OK after a hamstring injury kept him out for the majority of Sunday's game.

Moreno's career with the Broncos has been one big disappointment after another since he was drafted with the 12th overall pick in the 2009 draft by Josh McDaniels. Moreno came close to breaking the 1,000-yard mark as a rookie, falling 53 yards short. He then plodded through injury and ineffectiveness during 2010 before entering 2010 camp in good shape. However, injury and more ineffectiveness led to McGahee taking over for Moreno as starter.

How much longer will Moreno be in the Broncos' organization remains to be seen.

Knowshon Moreno Injury Update: Moreno Will Likely Miss Extended Time

With the Denver Broncos squarely in the race for an AFC West title, injuries to key personnel are the last thing they can afford. Unfortunately, according to the Denver Post, Broncos RB Knowshon Moreno is likely to miss an extended period of time following a knee injury in the victory over the Kansas City Chiefs:

Broncos running back Knowshon Moreno and Willis McGahee left the game against the Chiefs today with injuries in the first quarter and Moreno is unlikely to play when Denver hosts the New York Jets on Thursday night.

Moreno, who had a spectacular, tackler-hurdling 24-yard run on the opening drive, suffered a sprained ligament in his right knee. Moreno will have an MRI exam Monday to determine if there's a tear, but the initial diagnosis was he will be sidelined for a while.

While the loss of Moreno will be tough for the Broncos to swallow, the team did receive potentially good news on Willis McGahee:

McGahee suffered a strained hamstring on his fourth carry of the Broncos' opening drive.

"I'll be all right," McGahee said. "I could have come back in in an emergency situation."
