Knowshon Moreno Takes Over As Willis McGahee Could Reportedly Miss More Than A Month

After having surgery on his hand Tuesday, Denver Broncos running back Willis McGahee could miss only a couple of weeks or he could miss more than a month, according to Jeff Legwold of the Denver Post. Receiver Demaryius Thomas missed the first six weeks of the season with a broken pinky finger.

This now places the burden of the rushing game on Knowshon Moreno. Since being selected with the 12th overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, Moreno has failed to live up to expectations for being such a high pick.

He is one of Josh McDaniels' draft picks and many of those have already washed out with the Broncos (though Tim Tebow will always be the pick of the McDaniels Era). Moreno's rookie season was decent with 947 yards and seven rushing touchdowns, but then he, like the rest of the Broncos, ran into hard time in 2010. Now, he did miss three games due to injury in 2010 and he didn't have the greatest offensive line in front of him at times, but Moreno struggled to 779 yards.

Not a big bruising back, Moreno needs holes opened in front of him by the offensive line and that just hasn't happened. If he is to have any success in the next several weeks, Ryan Clady, Zane Beadles, J.D. Walton, Chris Kuper and rookie Orlando Franklin need to do better run blocking for him.
