Denver Broncos' Perrish Cox Suffers Concussion

During the third quarter of yesterday’s game, Broncos cornerback Perrish Cox left the game and did not return. We now know that Cox suffered a concussion, but not to what extent. Under NFL safety rules, Cox will not return to practice or a game until he exhibits no symptoms of a concussion. Also, he will need to be evaluated and cleared by not only the team’s doctor, but also an independent neurologist.

Denver Broncos Suffer Humiliating Loss To Oakland Raiders, 59-14

Denver, CO (Sports Network) – Third-year running back Darren McFadden had the best day of his professional career, rushing for three touchdowns and catching another score, as the Oakland Raiders put up the most points in franchise history during a 59-14 rout of the Denver Broncos at Invesco Field.

McFadden carried the ball 16 times for a career-high 165 yards for the Raiders (3-4), whose previous high for points in a regular season game was 52. The Redskins hold the NFL record for the most points in a single game, beating the New York Giants, 72-41, on November 27, 1966.

Jason Campbell completed 12-of-20 passes for 204 yards and two touchdowns for Oakland, which has won three straight in Denver for the first time since prevailing there in four straight contests from 1974-77.

Marcel Reece, Michael Bush, and Zach Miller also found the end zone for the Raiders, who racked up 508 yards of total offense, compared to 240 for Denver.

Kyle Orton connected on 12-of-29 passes for 198 yards, two touchdowns and an interception for the Broncos (2-5), who suffered their largest margin of defeat since losing to Kansas City, 56-10, on October 23, 1966.

Knowshon Moreno was the lone bright spot for Denver, catching two touchdown passes.

Oakland’s 59 points tied a record for the most points ever put up against the Broncos, who suffered a 59-7 loss to Kansas City on September 7, 1963.

Update

Broncos Vs. Raiders: Oakland Leads Denver, 38-7, At Halftime

For all the progress we saw the Broncos make in last week’s game against the Jets, it appears that the Broncos still have failed to learn how to stop the little things from hurting them. Multiple fumbles by the Denver Broncos have turned into points for the Raiders. Kyle Orton threw a pick-six in the first quarter to start digging the Broncos’ hole this game.

The defense has allowed big passing and rushing plays, which Darren McFadden has used to help his return to the field. McFadden has two rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown. He has 10 carries for 71 yards.

Kyle Orton is 7-of-17 with 90 yards, a touchdown and an interception. We haven’t seen much from the rushing game as the Broncos have resorted to throwing the ball when they are on the field, a rare thing to view in this game. Kyle Orton leads the team with 21 rushing yards, but also has a fumble. Demaryius Thomas also fumbled the ball and lost it to the Raiders. Knowshon Moreno, who hasn’t turned the ball over, has six rushes for 16 yards.

Update

Broncos Vs. Raiders: Raiders Quarterback For Sunday Still Undecided

Oakland Raiders head coach Tom Cable has yet to make a decision on who will start at quarterback for Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos. Jason Campbell may get the start, but Bruce Gradkowski has yet to be ruled out (despite a shoulder injury) and Kyle Boller is also a possibility.

Paul Gutierrez of CSN reported that had this week’s game taken place on Thursday, Cable would not have started Jason Campbell. Boller now appears as the front-runner to start Sunday against the Broncos.

With this uncertainty at the QB position, the Broncos will need to be ready for all three players. While Boller is the healthiest of the three, he has yet to play in the regular season so far. He did play in seven games for the St. Louis Rams in 2009.

Quest For The West; Broncos Begin Divisonal Play Against Hated Raiders

The Broncos will finally get into AFC West play this Sunday when they face the Oakland Raiders at Invesco Field @Mile High.  It is the 100th time the two teams will meet, with Denver trailing in the all-time series 41-56-2.  Week 7 equals a team mark set in 1985 for the latest the Broncos have played their first AFC West game.

The Broncos come into the game at 2-4, losers of two straight, but just 1.5 games behind division-leading Kansas City.  With all six games against AFC West opponents still on the schedule, the Broncos are still in good shape to win the division, something they haven't done since 2005.

It all starts this weekend against Oakland, a team that is once again in a bit of disarray after high hopes this summer.  While JaMarcus Russell is no longer in the fold, his replacement Jason Campbell hasn't gotten the job done either and lost his starting spot to Bruce Gradkowski.  With Gradkowski injured, the Raiders may turn back to Campbell or go with veteran journeyman Kyle Boller.

For the Broncos, they will look to continue their recent dominance against the Silver and Black.  Denver is 22-8 against Oakland since 1995, 11-4 in Denver.  The Raiders have won their last two trips to Invesco Field, however, something that has contributed greatly to the Broncos 4-year playoff drought.  The Broncos haven't beaten Oakland in Denver since September 16, 2007, a 23-20 OT win.

Ian Eagle and Dan Fouts will call the game for CBS.
