The Denver Broncos placed safety Kyle McCarthy on injured reserve on Monday after he suffered a knee injury during Sunday’s game against the Cardinals. To replace him on the roster, the Broncos signed wide receiver Britt Davis from the practice squad.
Britt Davis was an undrafted free agent from Northern Illinois in 2009 and was with the New York Jets through part of training camp in 2010. He latched on with the Broncos’ practice squad in November and received the move to the active roster today.
Davis has not played in an NFL game yet. The 24-year-old receiver is 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds.
The Denver Broncos have released 2007 first round draft pick Jarvis Moss to make room for outside linebacker David Veikune. Moss, a defensive end from the University of Florida who was selected 17th overall, had struggled to make any sort of impact in Denver in his four seasons with the team, totaling only 29 tackles and 3.5 sacks in his career.
Jarvis has tried to do everything we've asked him to. For a number of reasons...it hasn't been a perfect fit. We wish him the best.
David Veikune was a second round pick of the Cleveland Browns in 2009 out of Hawai'i. Veikune, who played defensive end in college, transferred to Houston to finish up his collegiate career after starting at Colorado. He played in 10 games for the Browns last season.
According to MaxBroncos.com, with Moss cut, the only pre-'08 first-rounder left on the Broncos' roster is D.J. Williams.
Smith (6-foot-3, 308 pounds) is a fifth-year player who played in 13 games (2 starts) with the Broncos in 2009 and totaled 10 tackles (9 solo) and a sack (2 yds.) after being acquired as part of a trade with New England prior to the season. He was released by the club on Sept. 7.

Nalbone, from Monmouth College, was a fifth round pick of the Miami Dolphins in 2009. Unrein graduated from the University of Wyoming and was formally a Houston Texan.
Denver Broncos wide receiver Matt Willis broke his foot on Sunday against the New York Jets and was placed on injured reserve on Tuesday. The Broncos signed linebacker Diyral Briggs from the team's practice squad to fill the roster spot:
Briggs is a second-year player who spent last season with San Francisco, the club that originally signed him as college free agent. He played in four games with the 49ers last year and totaled four special-teams tackles. He also played in the club’s opener against Seattle this season.
Wide receiver Eron Riley was signed to the practice squad to fill that missing slot.
