Colorado State loses to Air Force 42-21

The Air Force Falcons raced out to a 21-0 lead over the in-state rival Colorado St. Rams and ended up easily winning, 42-21. The traditional run-option attack for the Falcons led them to victory. As a team they rushed for 459 yards, averaging 6.9 yards per rush, and scored four of their six touchdowns on the ground.

Colorado State was shaken up early as starting quarterback Garrett Grayson left the game with a left shoulder injury early in the first quarter. Grayson was running an option play and was leveled by a pair of Air Force defenders as he was trying to reach for a first down.

Backup quarterback M.J. McPeek filled in nicely by going 22-of-34 passing with 292 yards. McPeek also had a pair of touchdowns, but his two interceptions were costly and prohibited Colorado State from making a comeback.

Both teams were able to move the ball, Air Force on the ground and Colorado State through the air, but the main difference in this game was the first quarter where Air Force blazed out to an early three-touchdown lead. Colorado State had no answer for that Falcons rushing attack and their offense could not pull together multiple touchdowns to get back in this game.

Box Score Hero: Running back Cody Getz, who rushed for 222 yards and averaged 8.9 yards per carry.

Rankings Ramifications: Despite the blowout win, Air Force will not be ranked in either poll.

But Did They Cover? Air Force was able to cover the 14½ line.
