Colorado State Football 2012: C.J. James Leaves Program As Roster Shakeup Continues

Senior defensive end C.J. James was granted his release from the Colorado State football program this week in another roster-shaking move under new coach Jim McElwain, as Mike Brohard of the Reporter Herald writes. James is the second Rams player that has asked for, and been granted, his release from the program.

It's another blow to a Colorado State defense that was already expected to have some growing pains under the new coaching staff. Early in the offseason, McElwain was forced to deal with the university expulsions of star linebacker Mike Orakpo, plus defensive linemen Nordly Capi and Colton Paulhus, for their respective roles in a violent off-campus fight.

James' departure from the program also represents the second time that a Rams player has left the program by choice this year. Safety Drew Reilly was released from his scholarship shortly after spring drills and has since signed on to play for BYU.

Brohard also reports that the Rams have signed cornerback Jasen Oden to a financial aid agreement. While it's not an official letter of intent, the Rams appear to have Oden locked up for the time being.
