Colorado State Football 2012: High Hopes For Rams' Secondary In 2012

While things are expected to be quite different in Fort Collins with new coach Jim McElwain running the show for the Colorado State Rams, the team's secondary won't show nearly as much change. As Kelly Lyell of Coloradoan.com writes, the secondary is one place where the Rams actually have some experience for once.

Three of last year's four starters are back in the defensive secondary, as are two other players who made starts as injury replacements. And there's a talented group of players right behind them, including three freshmen who sat out last year as redshirts, hoping to move into the starting lineup, as well.

Lyell also spoke with Rams safety Austin Gray, who said that the coverages and techniques used in the secondary by McElwain aren't all that different from the previous ones. The terminology is new, but with a relatively experienced group doing their thing, Colorado State could see some improvement on pass defense in 2012.
