The San Diego St. Aztecs (24-6, 10-4) continued their impressive streak this last week, beating the Boise St. Broncos 66-53 on Wednesday and the TCU Horned Frogs 98-92 on Saturday. As such, they unsurprisingly rose a little higher in this week's Coaches Poll, jumping from No. 23 to No. 21.
The Aztecs benefited from the vacuum created by the struggling Notre Dame Fighting Irish (who moved from No. 19 to No. 23) and the Louisville Cardinals (who went from No. 18 to unranked). The teams to beat in the upcoming NCAA tournament still appear to be the Kentucky Wildcats and the Syracuse Orange, who have remained No. 1 and No. 2 respectively for another week.
San Diego had one game remaining in the regular season, squaring off against Boise State on Thursday. Here is a look at the Coaches Poll Top 10:
| Rank | Team (1st-place votes) | Record | Previous |
| 1 | Kentucky (31) | 30-1 | 1 |
| 2 | Syracuse | 30-1 | 2 |
| 3 | Kansas | 26-5 | 4 |
| 4 | North Carolina | 27-4 | 6 |
| 5 | Missouri | 27-4 | 8 |
| 6 | Duke | 26-5 | 3 |
| 7 | Ohio State | 24-5 | 10 |
| 8 | Michigan State | 24-7 | 5 |
| 9 | Marquette | 25-6 | 7 |
| 10 | Murray State | 30-1 | 9 |

The New Mexico Lobos watched as their short stay on the Top 25 disappeared within a week, and meanwhile, the UNLV basketball team eases even closer to the Top 10.

Both the San Diego State Aztecs and UNLV Rebels went undefeated in conference play last week, and as such both ascended slightly in the most recent edition of the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll. The Aztecs, who knocked off the Wyoming Cowboys and surging Colorado State Rams, moved from No. 25 to No. 23, while the Rebels, who defeated the Boise State Broncos and Air Force Falcons, jumped up to No. 17 from No. 20.
It's not all good news for Mountain West teams though, as the New Mexico Lobos fell from the poll after losing two straight games to Colorado State and the TCU Horned Frogs. The Aztecs will finish the regular season this week with two straight road games against Boise State and TCU, and the Rebels will travel to Colorado State on Wednesday before ending with Wyoming at home over the weekend.
