Colorado St. Rams head coach Jim McElwain went to the same grade school as Denver Broncos great John Elway, but the two quarterbacks never had a duel to be the starter. As Terry Frei's piece in the Denver Post relates:

"John Elway went to the same grade school I did while Jack was coaching for the Grizzlies," McElwain says. "It's a good thing he left too, because I was the quarterback at Sentinel High School and he wouldn't have been the quarterback if he had stayed."

But, as Frei relates, McElwain laughs after that because he knows how it would have actually turned out. So it wouldn't have been so epic, really.
