The Rocky Mountain Showdown 2012 between the Colorado Buffaloes and the Colorado St. Rams will be played on Sunday, Sept. 2, at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.

The Denver Broncos won't be playing at Sports Authority Field at Mile High on Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, because the NFL regular season won't begin until later in the month. As a result, the Colorado Buffaloes and the Colorado St. Rams will take over the stadium for the Rocky Mountain Showdown that Sunday.

Since 2001, the Buffs and the Rams have played eight of the last 11 games at Mile High, interrupted three times for games at Folsom Field. The Buffs have won six of those eight games, including the last two contests.

Jim McElwain will have his first game as the Rams' head coach at the Broncos' home field before playing against the North Dakota St. Bison, the 2011 FCS National Champions, the following week.
