Colorado State Vs. Duke Final Score: Rams Can't Pull Off Upset, Lose 87-64 To No. 5 Blue Devils

The Colorado State Rams didn't let the Duke Blue Devils smack them around on Sunday, but they were handily beaten 87-64 at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Duke got out to an early lead and pulled away late in the first half, and Colorado State was never able to get it any closer than 13 points in the second half.

It was a nice all-around performance by Duke, which shot 56 percent from the field while playing solid defense. Freshman guard Austin Rivers came alive in the second half to lead the Blue Devils with 17 points. Mason Plumlee added 14 points, ten rebounds, five blocks, four steals and two assists, but most of his damage came in the first half. Andre Dawkins had 15 points in the first half but didn't score in the second, and Miles Plumlee added 14 and five rebounds.

Colorado State just couldn't quite keep up with Duke tonight. They shot better in the second half but still put up just 41 percent from the field, and they turned the ball over 15 times as well. Greg Smith led the team with 18 points on 7-for-15 shooting, and Dorian Green was the other big contributor with 14 points and ten rebounds.

Colorado State Vs. Duke Score Update: No. 5 Blue Devils Lead Rams At Halftime, 47-30

Going to Cameron Indoor Stadium to face the Duke Blue Devils is always a tall task, and the Colorado State Rams have felt that in the first half of Wednesday night's game. The Rams currently trail 47-30 at halftime after Duke put up a 10-0 run in the final five minutes of the half.

Junior forward Mason Plumlee has been unreal for Duke, scoring 13 points on 6-for-6 shooting while adding seven rebounds, four steals, four blocks and one assist. Andre Dawkins has also come off the bench to give Duke some scoring punch with 15 points on 6-for-8 shooting. The Blue Devils shot 58 percent overall in the half, although they were only 7-for-12 from the free-throw line.

Colorado State just couldn't find an offensive rhythm in the first half, especially as Duke pulled away. They shot just 37 percent from the field, although they were 3-for-5 from three-point range, so that could be an area to exploit in the second half. Wes Elkmeier and Greg Smith have led the way with scoring for the Rams with ten points apiece.

Duke Vs. Colorado State Is A Rematch Of 2003 NCAA Tournament Game

The last time the Colorado St. Rams made the NCAA Tournament was in 2003. That season the Rams finished the Mountain West Conference regular season with a 16-13 record before going on a three-game winning streak to capture the conference tournament. The Rams were the No. 6 seed, the lowest to win the tournament, by defeating the Wyoming Cowboys, the BYU Cougars in overtime and the UNLV Rebels.

And then the Rams faced the Duke Blue Devils in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The Rams lost to the Blue Devils, 67-57. Matt Nelson and Brian Greene scored 21 and 14 points, respectively, while no other player reached more than nine points.

Back then, Duke had J.J. Redick (16 points), Dahntay Jones (23 points) and Sheldon Williams (12 rebounds). Can Rivers and the Plumlees get the deal done like their predecessors?
