The Colorado St. Rams (3-6) entered the 4th quarter down by eight, but their comeback bid fell just short as the San Diego St. Aztecs (6-3) held on for their sixth win of the season.
Sophomore Chris Nwoke's stunning 232 rushing yards could not invigorate the otherwise stifled Rams offense, as the Aztecs escaped with the win.
The Rams defense stopped the driving Aztecs at the end of the 3rd quarter, taking the ball on a turnover on downs near their own 30 yard line. Down 15-7 at the half and at the end of the third quarter, the Rams offense drove the length of the field -- with the help of two personal foul penalties -- to score on a Garrett Grayson touchdown run. Grayson then dashed into the end zone for the two-point conversion and a 15-15 tie game.
The Aztecs responded quickly with an 8-play drive, setting up a 37-yard Abelardo Perez field goal and an 18-15 Aztecs lead. The Rams offense got the ball again twice, but could not muster more than 20 yards on both drives combined.
The Rams will be in action again next week, travelling to face the TCU Horned Frogs, trying break their five-game losing streak.

Despite San Diego St. putting together two drives deep into Colorado St. territory, the Rams are still within striking distance, as they trail the Aztecs 15-7 heading into the fourth quarter.
San Diego St. had an opportunity to stretch its lead on multiple occasions in the third quarter, but couldn't find a way to get points on the scoreboard. Abelardo Perez missed a 44-yard field goal attempt halfway through the quarter. The Aztecs were also unable to convert on a fourth down conversion in Colorado St. territory.
After losing starting QB Pete Thomas to an injury in the first half, the Rams struggled to generate much offense following the halftime break. Colorado St. only had the ball once in the quarter due to the Aztecs putting together two long drives. However, the Rams were forced to punt on their lone drive, with San Diego St. doing an excellent job of limiting Chris Nwoke.

San Diego St. has used its dominant rushing game to open up a 15-7 lead over Colorado St. at the half. Sophomore RB Ronnie Hillman rushed for 75 yards on 19 attempts in the opening half. However, it was backup RB Walter Kazee that managed to find the endzone in the second quarter. Kazee rushed for 49 yards on 12 carries in the first half.
Colorado St. RB Chris Nwoke has been unstoppable for the Rams, providing numerous big plays in the first half. Nwoke has had two 60+ yard runs, including a 63-yard touchdown run in the opening quarter. Nwoke has rushed for 175 yards on only 10 carries.
Unfortunately, the Rams lost starting QB Pete Thomas to a knee injury, which means freshman QB Garrett Grayson will have to lead Colorado St. Grayson completed 1/3 in the opening half and threw an interception after replacing Thomas.

After a slow start by both teams in Fort Collins, both Colorado St. and San Diego St. scored on their final drive of the first quarter. However, San Diego St. surprised the Rams by attempting a two-point conversion after its touchdown and holds an 8-7 lead heading into the second quarter.
Colorado St. used a quick strike from Chris Nwoke to jump out to a 7-0 lead. Nwoke broke off a 63-yard TD run to give the Rams the early momentum. Nwoke rushed for 97 yards in the first quarter. Sophomore QB Pete Thomas completed 3/7 for 26 yards in the opening 15 minutes.
Following a couple of poor drives, San Diego St. found its rhythm on the final drive of the first quarter. The Aztecs capped off a 13-play drive with a touchdown pass from Ryan Lindley to Alston Umuolo. Despite the TD pass, Lindley struggled in the opening quarter, completing just 5/11 for 23 yards.

The Colorado St. Rams face a tall task on Saturday when they face Ryan Lindley, Ronnie Hillman and the rest of the San Diego St. Aztecs offense, but the team did receive good news early on Saturday. Safety Ivory Herd was reinstated to the team after being suspended for the last two games (losses to UTEP and UNLV), reports the Denver Post's Chris Dempsey.
Herd was suspended indefinitely back in October by head coach Steve Fairchild after he was arrested on charges of domestic violence toward his girlfriend. Fairchild had said that the suspension would not last for the entire season, but there is no indication right now what has changed to make the suspension last for only two games.
The Rams are looking to end a two-game losing streak to the Aztecs on Saturday.

It's been a while since the Colorado State Rams won a football game. Their last win came on Sept. 24 against Utah State, and since then they've lost four consecutive games. They hope to end that losing streak on Saturday when they face the San Diego State Aztecs, a team that's had a bit more success this season. The Aztecs are 5-3 on the year and have lost their games against good teams- TCU, Michigan and Wyoming- so the Rams should have their hands full if they want to get their season back on track.
Game time, date: 4:00 p.m. MT, Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011
Location: Hughes Stadium, Fort Collins, CO
TV channel: The Mountain West Sports Network
Spread: San Diego State is favored by 12.5 points.
Series history: San Diego State leads all-time series, 17-13.

Mychal Sisson took part in his first practice with the team on Tuesday to test his repaired broken ankle and the expectation was that Sisson would be questionable against the San Diego St. Aztecs this Saturday and be ready to go against the TCU Horned Frogs on Nov. 19. On Wednesday, Sisson was able to practice in full pads and now according to head coach Steve Fairchild, Sisson has been upgraded to a game-time decision:
"We'll see," Fairchild said. "We'll talk with (head trainer) Terry DeZeeuw. I'd be very surprised. ... Terry's being cautious, Myke's being aggressive. The right things will happen. I think TCU and Air Force are more realistic goals. But we'll see."
[...]
"I thought about that yesterday," Fairchild said. "I thought even if we got a few snaps out of him that would be kind of a nice thing. But we don't want to put him out there until he's ready and we don't need to make that decision right now."
Sisson mentioned that he felt no pain after his Tuesday's practice and on Wednesday practiced with the scout team and was part of 7-on-7 drills. Even with the improvement of Sisson's ankle it seems unlikely that he will play on Saturday, but Fairchild is not going to close the door entirely until game-time.

The Colorado State Rams have lost four games in a row, and the odds makers don't like their chances of ending that streak this week against San Diego State.

Linebacker Mychal Sisson made a surprise appearance at Tuesday's Colorado St. Rams football practice. Sisson has been out since Sept. 10 with a broken right ankle that he suffered on a special teams play. He was able to participate in practice wearing shells -- helmets and shoulder pads -- to take part in some hitting.
With a reeling defense the team was excited to see Sisson back on the practice field:
"It brought some energy to the team," [quarterback Pete] Thomas said. "I have no idea if he'll play out there on Saturday, I'll be surprised if he does. But just having him out there at practice was pretty cool."
Sisson has been practicing lightly by running and doing some range of motion last week, but Tuesday was the first time he took part in a team practice. After practice Sisson said that his ankle is feeling good:
"I actually felt real good. There were a couple of times I felt I was thinking about my ankle a little bit, seeing if it was going to hold up. But it held up. That's the only thing, just getting my mind to stop thinking about it and just go out there and play like I normally did."
Sisson also mentioned that he was not seeing any swelling on his ankle after working out, but that his ankle is sore the following day. As for this Saturday, Sission will be questionable to play against the San Diego St. Aztecs, but he is on schedule to return to action on Nov. 19 against the TCU Horned Frogs.
