Battle Of Freshmen Quarterbacks: Colorado State's Pete Thomas Vs. BYU's Jake Heaps

BYU's Jake Heaps was the highest rated quarterback in the country and came into town with all of the accolades and was to be the next great BYU quarterback in the long list of BYU signal callers, but that was not the case as BYU implemented a two-quarterback system. Heaps may have finally broken through with his 294 yard, two touchdown performance against UNLV last week.

However, Heaps is not the only top rated freshman quarterback to grace the Mountain West, and that is Colorado State's Pete Thomas who was a four-star recruit and the highest rated quarterback to ever enroll at Colorado State. Thomas has been the better of the two so far this season, and below is a comparison of the two.

Catagory Jake Heaps, BYU Pete Thomas, Colorado State
Games 9 10
Completion % 53.3 66.1
Yards Per Game 150.1 227.3
Yards/Attempt 5.2 7.2
TD - INT 4 - 7 10-10

One item to note is that Pete Thomas has been the only starter for Colorado State where Jake Heaps split time with Riley Nelson for the first three games before Nelson went out with a shoulder injury. Saturday's game will feature two of the bright young quarterbacks in the country before they are household names. Too bad that these two schools will not be facing each other Saturday's game with BYU going independent.
