The Colorado State Rams will play for their second conference win this Saturday night as they host the UNLV Rebels at Hughes Stadium.
The Rams are coming off a rivalry loss to the Wyoming Cowboys on Nov. 3, when they fell, 45-31. It was the fourth straight "Border War" loss for Colorado State, which is 2-7 on the season. The Rams have shuffled through three quarterbacks this season, and for the past three games have rolled with Conner Smith. The freshman is averaging 202 passing yards on a 66 percent completion rate, by far the best accuracy displayed by the three quarterbacks. The Rams' run game has suffered, however, grinding out 111 yards per game.
At 2-8, UNLV ended a five-game losing streak on Nov. 3 against New Mexico, beating the Lobos in a blowout, 35-7. In that win, the Rebels racked up 530 yards of offense, including 241 rushing yards on a 10-yards-per-carry clip. UNLV is slowly improving offensively under Bobby Hauck and freshman quarterback Nick Sherry, but its defense gives up 460 yards per game, which lands the Rebels in the bottom 20 nationally.
Colorado State leads the all-time series 13-6-1.
