Rockies Vs. Padres Game Recap: Colorado Defeats San Diego In Sunday Slugfest

The Colorado Rockies defeated the San Diego Padres on Sunday afternoon slugfest, by a score of 11-10. With the victory, the Rockies won their second consecutive series, and their third in the last four.

Dexter Fowler led the Rox in hits with three on the day, but it was Chris Nelson who came up with the biggest one. With two runners on and the Rockies trailing 9-7 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Nelson sent a 1-1 slider from Brad Brach into the trees beyond the centerfield wall, giving the Rockies a 10-9 lead. They would add an important insurance run in the eighth, as Fowler singled in Charlie Blackmon.

Padres third baseman Chase Headley was a thorn in the side of the Rockies all afternoon, as he had four of San Diego's 19 hits and drove in six of their 10 runs. However, Rafael Betancourt was able to escape a jam in the ninth inning two batters before Headley was due up again. Despite allowing a run in the final inning on Alexei Amarista's RBI single (which was his fifth hit of the day), Betancourt earned his 27th save.

Rockies starter Jeff Francis lasted just 3.2 innings, allowing five earned runs on ten hits while striking out four. Adam Ottavino had a rare rough outing, surrendering three runs on six hits in two and a third, but he was picked up by, among others, Matt Belisle, who struck out two in a scoreless inning of work.

Jordan Pacheco and Ramon Hernandez added two hits apiece, while Hernandez and Tyler Colvin homered for Colorado.
