The Colorado Rockies will be without their veteran first baseman for the remainder of 2012 as he recovers from a torn labrum.
The Colorado Rockies received some devastating news for their devastated season on Monday. According to Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post, 1B Todd Helton is done for the year.
The torn labrum in his right hip will require surgery, Saunders reports, and the recovery will guarantee Helton cannot play again this season -- though he hopes to return early in 2013:
"The recovery time is about six months, so I am doing this now so I can be ready for spring training. I plan on playing next year," Helton told The Denver Post on Monday morning.
Helton, 38, played in only 69 games in the 2012 season, but struggled with respect to his career numbers. He hit only 7 home runs with a .238/.343/.400 slash.
