Rockies Vs. Mets Final Score: Colorado Starts Road Trip With 3-1 Victory

The Colorado Rockies opened their road series against the New York Mets with a 3-1 victory on Monday night at Citi Field. The Rockies are now on a two-game winning streak.

The Mets and Rockies played to a 1-1 tie through seven full innings on a first-inning Daniel Murphy RBI single for the Mets and a fifth-inning Tyler Colvin home run (14) in the fifth inning. However, the Mets suffered a series of defensive miscues in the top of the eighth, allowing the Rockies to score the go-ahead run.

Jonathan Herrera reached first base on a bunt single and, on the same play, moved to second on a throwing error by pitcher Josh Edgin. Chris Nelson put down a sacrifice bunt to move Herrera over to third base. With Herrera on third, Edgin faced Charlie Blackmon, but it was catcher Kelly Shoppach who committed a passed ball, placing Herrera across home plate.

Ramon Hernandez added an insurance run with a Ramon Hernandez single in the top of the ninth.

Alex White (ND, 5.55 ERA) started and allowed the Murphy RBI single, but once again he failed to pitch past the fourth inning. He used 83 pitches to get 12 outs. Guillermo Moscoso relieved him as his tandem pitcher and struck out three over the next 2.1 innings. Rex Brothers picked up his seventh win after throwing 1.1 scoreless innings, giving way to Rafael Betancourt's 24th save.

Mets starter R.A. Dickey (ND, 2.82 ERA) allowed one run over seven innings and struck out six. His team had a chance in the eighth inning to tie the game when the bases were loaded, but Jordany Valdespin hit a grounder to first base and was out at the bag by the slightest of margins.

The Rockies (47-73, 21-34 away) continue this series on Tuesday at 5:10 p.m. MT. Jhoulys Chacin makes his return after a couple of months on the disabled list.
