Rockies general manager Dan O'Dowd will remain in his position, but he is focusing more on player development. Assistant general manager Bill Geivett is working more closely with the major league team on a day-to-day basis.

In another twist on the Colorado Rockies' 2012 season, general manager Dan O'Dowd is shifting his responsibilities to player development, according to Troy Renck of the Denver Post. Assistant general manager Bill Geivett will receive expanded duties and work closely day-to-day with the major league club.

This comes after late night rumors had pegged Dan O'Dowd as being fired. Ultimately, those rumors proved to be untrue, but even in rumors there is a bit of truth to be found. O'Dowd still has overall control of baseball operations and is Geivett's boss.

The 2012 season has been a tumultuous one for the Rockies and is on the verge of turning into a 100-loss season. Earlier in the season, owner Dick Monfort called O'Dowd the best general manager in the business and said he would stick by him through everything. The Denver Post's editors publicly called for O'Dowd's dismissal after the four-man, paired pitching rotation (a product of Project 5,183) and general lousiness of play kept the Rockies among the worst teams in the majors.

At this point, there isn't much of a change going on. Moving pieces around, yes, but actual difference? That remains to be seen.
