2013 World Baseball Classic: Salt River Fields Will Be Host Site For First Round Games

Major League Baseball has announced that Chase Field and Salt River Fields at Talking Stick will be the two ballparks hosting the first round of the 2013 World Baseball Classic in the spring. Chase Field is the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks, while Salt River Fields is the spring home of the D-Backs and the Colorado Rockies.

Salt River Fields, the first MLB park built on Native American Indian land, was completed last year after construction began in 2009. The stadium complex is located in Scottsdale, Arizona, and it has an official capacity of 11,000. Fans packed into the stadium during the spring, though, as the average attendance was 11,161 per game.

MLB has also announced that AT&T Park in San Francisco, the home of the Giants, will be hosting the semifinals and the finals of the big event. Games will also be played in Marlins Park, in addition to the aforementioned three ballparks.
