Rockies Vs. Padres Recap: Colorado Falls To San Diego, 9-5

The Colorado Rockies and San Diego Padres put up 11 combined runs over the first three innings of their game on Friday night, but Colorado started on the wrong side of the scoring and never quite recovered as they lost, 9-5. Rockies starter Drew Pomeranz held the Padres offense at bay for the first three outs, but things quickly deteriorated from that point. San Diego put up three runs in the second inning and four more in the third to jump out to an early 7-4 lead, ending the night for Pomeranz and setting up what turned out to be an insurmountable lead.

For more on how things broke badly for Colorado, here is a bit of the recap from SB Nation's Rockies blog:

Unfortunately, you aren't going to win many games when your starter gives up 7 runs on 9 hits in just 3 innings, as Drew Pomeranz did tonight. The poor outing raised Pomeranz's ERA on the year to a more Rockies-like 4.98. Josh Roenicke cleaned up the mess, albeit a little late, with 3.1 IP of 2 hit, 5 strikeout ball. Adding to the poor news, catcher Wilin Rosario left the game with a low grade ankle sprain early on -- he should be day to day.

With the loss, the Rockies drop to 3.5 back of the Padres and 22 games under .500.
