Rockies Vs. Cardinals Final Score: Colorado Loses 6-2

Looking to split the series, the Colorado Rockies lost 6-2 to the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday night as the offense once again struggled. The Rockies scored a total of nine runs over the four-game series in St. Louis, during which they won just one game.

Rockies starter Christian Friedrich struggled en route to another loss, allowing six runs over 4.1 innings despite giving up just five hits. Cardinals starter Lance Lynn was dominant in comparison, shutting the Cardinals out over six innings while striking out seven.

Tyler Colvin continued to flash his power bat for the Rockies, hitting his 11th home run of the year in the eighth inning, but Colorado couldn't take advantage of its nine hits. Carlos Beltran led the Cardinals on offense with two hits and two RBI.

Rockies Vs. Cardinals Lineup: Tyler Colvin Hitting No. 5 Against RHP Lance Lynn

Hot-hitting Tyler Colvin and the Colorado Rockies (31-50) take on the St. Louis Cardinals (43-39) on Thursday night, looking to shake their recent slump. The team has not won three games in a row since the end of May, and they have most recently lost four of their last five.

Colvin, who sports a 1.106 OPS since the beginning of June, will hit fifth for only the eighth time in the 2012 MLB Season. Acquired in the Ian Stewart trade, Colvin has been one of the few bright spots in the Rockies disappointing 2012 season.

The Cardinals send SP Lance Lynn to the mound. Lynn has pitched well in the 2012 season as a starter, after spending the 2011 season in relief. He currently sports a 3.62 ERA and 3.43 FIP.

Here is a look at the full lineup, courtesy of the Rockies official twitter account:

Juan Nicasio Injury Update: Rockies RHP Scatched From Simulated Rehab Game

The Colorado Rockies own the worst team ERA (5.34), WHIP (1.60) and Batting Average Against (.298) in Major League Baseball for the 2012 season, but they won't be getting any help from Juan Nicasio in the near future. Nicasio was scratched from a simulated game scheduled for Thursday due to fluid build-up in his knee, according to Troy Renck of The Denver Post. The 25-year-old has been on the disabled list since June 3, and he has posted a 5.28 ERA and 1.62 WHIP over 58.0 innings in 2012.

Nicasio's timetable for a return from the disabled list is unclear, and the Rockies (31-50) are stumbling into the All-Star break with one of the worst records in Major League Baseball.

Rockies Vs. Cardinals: Christian Friedrich, Lance Lynn Duel In Finale

The Colorado Rockies are halfway to 100 losses during the 2012 season after dropping Game 3 against the St. Louis Cardinals on Independence Day, a 4-1 loss. That series comes to an end on Thursday evening, but the Rockies will need to face one of the league's top pitchers this season: Lance Lynn.

Lynn (10-4, 3.62 ERA), however, has had a rough go of things in his last three starts. He's 0-2 in those starts, has failed to pitch more than 5.1 innings and has allowed 17 runs in 15.1 innings. This will be his first career start against the Rockies.

The Rockies turn to Christian Friedrich (4-5, 5.52) for the finale. Friedrich ended a four-game losing streak in his last outing when he picked up a no-decision. The Rockies still lost that game to the San Diego Padres, 8-4, but Friedrich allowed just one run (a home run) in five innings and struck out five. This will be his first game against the Cardinals.

Rockies Vs. Cardinals Final Score: Colorado Loses Game No. 50 In 4-1 Loss To St. Louis

The Colorado Rockies finished with 10 hits, but weren't able to muster up enough run support for starter Jeremy Guthrie during a 4-1 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday. The Rockies fall to 31-50 in defeat, while St. Louis moves to 43-39.

Guthrie falls to 3-8 as the hard luck loser, allowing just six hits and two earned runs over six innings. The pitcher also supplied the lone Colorado run, a fifth inning single to right to score shortstop Jonathan Herrera.

St. Louis was led by left fielder Matt Holliday, who finished 3-for-4 with an RBI double to get scoring started in the first inning. David Freese added the final blow for the Cards with an eighth inning single to score Holliday and teammate Carlos Beltran.

Ramon Hernandez Injury: Catcher To Begin Rehab Assignment On Wednesday

Colorado Rockies catcher Ramon Hernandez will begin his minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Colorado Springs on Wednesday night, as the team announced. It was previously reported that the assignment could begin on Thursday, but Hernandez isn't taking the extra day to get on the field.

Hernandez has been on the disabled list since May 25 with a left hand strain, an injury that had been bothering him all season before he ultimately decided to shut things down. The numbers bear his struggles this season, as he's hit just .215/.260/.398 with four homers over 101 plate appearances.

Wilin Rosario has handled most of the catching duties with Hernandez out, flashing absolutely huge power numbers (10 doubles, 14 homers), but a terrible .280 on-base percentage.

Rockies Vs. Cardinals Lineup: Michael Cuddyer Gets Day Off

The Colorado Rockies are giving right fielder Michael Cuddyer a day off as they face the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday night. In his place, the Rockies have Tyler Colvin taking over in right field with Dexter Fowler covering center.

Colvin continues to get an expanded role in Colorado as he thrives playing in the thin air of Coors Field. He's flashing his typically terrible strikeout and walk numbers, but he's hitting .304/.333/.601 overall with 10 doubles, five triples and 10 homers in 180 plate appearances.

Here's the Rockies' lineup:

1. Dexter Fowler (CF)
2. Marco Scutaro (2B)
3. Carlos Gonzalez (LF)
4. Tyler Colvin (RF)
5. Todd Helton (1B)
6. Chris Nelson (3B)
7. Wil Nieves (C)
8. Jonathan Herrera (SS)
9. Jeremy Guthrie (SP)

And the Cardinals' lineup:

2. Jon Jay (CF)
3. Matt Holliday (LF)
4. Carlos Beltran (RF)
5. Allen Craig (1B)
6. Yadier Molina (C)
7. David Freese (3B)
8. Skip Schumaker (2B)
9. Adam Wainwright (SP)

Rockies Transactions 2012: Colorado Promotes Carlos Torres, Demotes Josh Outman To Triple-A

The Colorado Rockies have demoted pitcher Josh Outman to Triple-A Colorado Springs and recalled Carlos Torres to replace him on the active roster, as the team announced on Wednesday. The Rockies are playing the Cardinals on Wednesday night and Torres should be active for the game.

Torres, 29, has appeared in 14 games for Colorado Springs this year, including 13 starts. He hasn't eaten many innings, pitching just 61 innings despite his primary role as a starter, but his 3.98 ERA is solid for the extremely hitter-friendly environment there.

Outman's had a rough year, posting a 9.00 ERA over 31 innings splitting his first season with the Rockies as both a starter and a reliever. He's struck out 32 hitters, but he's had major issues with allowing homers and walks.

Rockies Vs. Cardinals: Jeremy Guthrie Returns To Rotation

The Colorado Rockies won the second game of their series against the World Series Champion St. Louis Cardinals behind some stellar pitching by Jeff Francis and their top bullpen arms. They now have a chance for at least a series split against St. Louis with a victory on Wednesday.

Veteran pitcher Jeremy Guthrie (3-7, 6.56) makes his return to the rotation after a two week stint in the bullpen as a longman. He found some success in that role, with six earned runs allowed in 12.1 innings and has been promoted in light of Josh Outman's recent struggles.

He will face former Cy Young winner Adam Wainwright (6-8, 4.75), who has been inconsistent this season in his return from Tommy John surgery. In his last start, Wainwright allowed seven earned runs in just five innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Rockies Vs. Cardinals Final Score: Colorado Wins Pitching Duel 3-2

The Colorado Rockies didn't have a hit after the fourth inning on Tuesday night, but it didn't matter. The Rockies defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 3-2 at Busch Stadium. The win moves the Rockies to 31-49, while St. Louis falls to 42-39.

Rockies starter Jeff Francis allowed five hits and two earned runs over five innings to improve to 2-1.

The Cardinals started the scoring when Matt Holliday belted a two-run homer, his 14th of the year, in the first inning. The Rockies would answer when Tyler Colvin belted a three-run homer, who 10th of the season, in the third to give Colorado the lead for good.

St. Louis pitcher Joe Kelly allowed five hits and three runs (two earned) over six innings.

Rockies Vs. Cardinals: Colorado Turns To Jeff Francis On Tuesday Night

After winning back-to-back games last week for the first time in nearly a month, the Colorado Rockies find themselves in the midst of a three-game losing streak. The team's most recent loss was a 9-3 decision to the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday night, and the Rockies are back for more at Busch Stadium on Tuesday night.

Jeff Francis (1-1, 5.47 ERA) threw six shutout innings in his last start. That happened to be the Rockies' last win, a 10-2 victory over the San Diego Padres. He was extended to 82 pitches in that game, so we'll wait to see if he will go over the 75-pitch count again.

Joe Kelly (1-0, 3.38 ERA) has thrown six innings in each of his last two starts, but the team has gone just 1-1 over that time. While he has a 117 ERA+, Kelly has allowed 28 hits in 21.1 innings pitched and averages just 4.6 strikeouts per nine innings.

Jeremy Guthrie Trade Rumors: Rockies Move RHP Back To Rotation Before Trade Deadline

The Colorado Rockies (30-49) suffered through an awful month of June, going 9-18 and never winning more than two games in a row during that span, and for that reason the club is expected to be a seller through MLB's non-waiver trade deadline on July 31. Jeremy Guthrie's move back the starting rotation on Wednesday against the St. Louis Cardinals could be part of that story as well. With Christian Friedrich in need of some extra rest (sore calf), Guthrie will move out of the bullpen and back into the rotation for a spot start. Over at The Denver Post there is speculation that it creates an opportunity to showcase Guthrie to potential suitors, as the 33-year-old "has attracted mild interest the last few weeks and is expected to be dealt."

Rockies Vs. Cardinals Final Score: Colorado Drops 3rd Straight Game With 9-3 Loss In St. Louis

The St. Louis Cardinals received another stellar pitching effort from Kyle Lohse during an 9-3 victory over the Colorado Rockies in the series opener on Monday at Busch Stadium. The loss drops the Rockies to 30-49 on the season, while St. Louis moves to 42-38.

Matt Holliday went 2-for-3 and hit his 13th homer of the season to give the Cards a 2-0 lead in the third inning. Allen Craig also went deep for the Cards with a two-run shot in the fifth, his 12th of the season. Third baseman David Freese finished 3-for-4 in the win.

Rockies starter Josh Outman gave up two runs and five walks over three innings before being pulled for Tyler Chatwood, who proceeded to give up four runs and five hits over 2.1 innings. Tyler Colvin added his ninth homer of the year in the fourth inning, which was really the only offensive highlight for the Rockies.

Rockies Vs. Cardinals Lineups: Tyler Colvin Hitting No. 5 For 2nd Game In A Row

The Colorado Rockies (30-48) have not had many bright spots in the 2012 MLB season, but the emergence of OF Tyler Colvin has certainly made an injury-plagued season much more enjoyable for Colorado fans. The 26-year-old outfielder who joined the team in the 3B Ian Stewart trade has hit 8 home runs with a .378 weighted on base average -- good for third-best on the team.

As such, he has begun to cultivate additional playing time, starting in four of the last five Rockies games. On Monday, Colvin will again be featured in the lineup, hitting No. 5 against the St. Louis Cardinals (41-38). Here's a look at Monday's lineup:
