Padres Vs. Rockies: Drew Pomeranz Returns To Coors Field On Sunday

The Colorado Rockies were on the wrong end of history on Saturday night when San Diego Padres catcher Yasmani Grandal collected his first two career hits as home runs from each side of the plate. Those long balls helped the Padres pick up an 8-4 victory, denying the Rockies a chance at a three-game winning streak.

On Sunday, the Rockies turn to Drew Pomeranz (0-2, 4.70 ERA), recently recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Pomeranz made five starts for the Rockies over April and May but struggled with consistency. His last start lasted just three innings after he was hit in the right quad. Several days later he found himself back in the minors to work on things. Down in the Springs, Pomeranz has gone 4-4 with a 2.51 ERA, averaging nearly nine strikeouts per nine innings.

Kip Wells (0-1, 3.60 ERA) makes just his second start of the year after joining the Padres on June 26. He allowed five runs (two earned) against the Houston Astros in that game. Rockies fans will remember Kip Wells as the team's Opening Day starter in 2008.

This game will be played at 1:10 p.m. MT and can be seen on ROOT Sports or heard on 850 KOA.
