Colorado native and current LSU Tigers pitcher Kevin Gausman is still playing in the 2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament, but he will soon call the minor leagues teams of the Baltimore Orioles his home. He was taken by the team with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2012 MLB Draft
Gausman is 11-1 with a 2.72 ERA in 115.2 innings pitched. He has struck out 128 batters so far. He is expected to pitch in either the first or second game of the Super Regionals this weekend. He is not eligible to sign with the team until LSU is eliminated from postseason play. Once that happens, Gausman will have until July 13 at 3:00 p.m. MT to sign a deal or head back to school for another year.
Gausman was a draft-eligible sophomore this season, which gives him two years more of eligibility. However, it seems unlikely Gausman will return, as the slotting system for baseball is pretty much set in stone and his stock might never be higher.
