The Colorado Rockies (30-47) could not overcome the first career start from C Yasmani Grandal (2 for 4, 2 HR) as he and SS Alexi Amarista (2 for 4, 2 HR) led the San Diego Padres (29-50) to an 8-4 win over the Rockies.
Christian Friedrich started for the Rockies and lasted 5.0 inning while allowing only 1 run on a home run from Grandal, striking out 5 Padres hitters in the process. The Rockies reciprocated in the 5th inning with a catcher home run of their own as C Wilin Rosario launched his 13th jack of the year, and the Rockies put up 2 runs in the inning for a 2-1 lead heading into the 6th.
From there, RP Jeremy Guthrie (BS, 1)(L, 3-7) entered the game and could not keep the ball in the park. He promptly allowed three runs to the Padres on two homers -- including a second homer to Grandal. RP Adam Ottavino worked the top of the eighth, but allowed 4 ER of his own for an 8-2 Padres lead.
And though the Rockies posted a 2-run rally in the bottom of the eighth inning, they could not finished the comeback and fell both into the loss column 8-4 and into the history books:
