Former Rockies Prospect Paul Bargas Dead At 23

Stay connected for news and updates

On Tuesday, former Colorado Rockies pitching prospect Paul Bargas died as a result of brain cancer. He was 23 years old.

He played his college baseball for UC Riverside and was drafted by the Rockies in the 13th round of the 2009 MLB Draft. As a reliever for the Casper Ghosts, the Tri-City Dust Devils and the Asheville Tourists over the 2009 and 2010 seasons, Bargas put up a 3.12 ERA and an 8-5 record in 77 games.

Bargas was traded before the 2011 season to the Minnesota Twins for backup catcher Jose Morales. He was then diagnosed with brain cancer during spring training that year.

Our deepest sympathies to the Bargas family.
