Troy Tulowitzki Has 'A Ways To Go,' Says Stu Cole

Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki isn't close to returning to the Rockies -- at least if Stu Cole's input means anything.

Cole, the manager of the Colorado Spring Sky Sox, noticed that Tulowitzki isn't 100 percent.

"It's going to take some time for something like (groin surgery) to heal up," Sky Sox manager Stu Cole said. "He has a ways to go after that surgery."

Sunday, the Rockies' shortstop played the five innings he was scheduled for in the Sky Sox's 5-3 win over Las Vegas, but Cole says the star isn't back to full strength.

"You can't expect a guy to be 100 percent after a surgery like that," Cole said. "It's not realistic. It's just going to take some time.

The Rockies announced Monday morning that Tulowitzki will serve as Colorado Springs' designated hitter on Monday, and will then continue his rehab with the Tulsa Drillers on Wednesday and Thursday.

Tulowitzki hasn't appeared in a game with the Rockies since May 30. Colorado's All-Star shortstop was enjoying a solid year, hitting .287/.360/.468 with eight home runs, before hitting the disabled list.

Troy Tulowitzki Injury Update: Rockies SS Has Successful Workout On Wednesday

All went well with Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki's workout Wednesday, paving way for the 2011 All-Star to begin his much-awaited rehab assignment, according to the Denver Post's Tory Renck.

Tulowitzki, who hasn't played since May 30, traveled to Philadelphia early Wednesday to visit the doctor who performed surgery on his groin on June 21. From that appointment, and a successful groundball session with fellow injured infielder Josh Rutledge, the team now has enough confidence to allow Tulowitzki to begin making his way back, starting this weekend in Double-A Tulsa.

Tulowitzki had a .287/.360/.486 line in 203 plate appearances before aggravating his nagging groin injury in late May. The Rockies are likely to play it extremely careful with their star 27-year-old though with the team owning the third worst record in baseball and having little but pride to play for.

Troy Tulowitzki Injury Update: Rockies SS Moves Closer To Rehab Stint

With the second worst record in the MLB and the worst in their division, not much has gone right for the Colorado Rockies in 2012 and the loss of two-time All-Star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki certainly hasn't helped. After surgery on his left groin on June 21, Tulowitzki has had to sit idly by and watch the Rockies flounder in the NL West.

He may finally be slated for a return, though, as Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that the shortstop just needs to pass a Wednesday checkup with the surgeon that performed on his groin before Tulowitzki can begin a rehab assignment over the weekend. While it's purely speculative at this point, Renck predicts it would be Tulsa, then Colorado Springs.

If all goes well, Tulowitzki could rejoin the Rockies in September, although the team will likely be extremely cautious and deliberate with their actions regarding the shortstop.

Troy Tulowitzki Injury Update: Rockies SS Looks Strong During Workout

Rockies fans got some good news on Wednesday night. Before Colorado's final game in its three-game set against Milwaukee, injured shortstop Troy Tulowitzki engaged in a workout during which fans saw him making plays like the "Tulo" they know and love.

There was shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, making strong throws from the hole, turning smooth double plays and gliding on the basepaths. Tulo’s personal workout lasted about 30 minutes and by all accounts it was a success. - Denver Post

One can't help but notice Tulowitzki's thoughts on his workout, of which he said "I didn't even have to think about it," which seems to be the most positive commentary a player returning from injury can make.

Tulowitzki hasn't played since injuring his groin on May 30. Through 47 games, the shortstop was hitting .287 with eight home runs and 27 RBI. In his absence, Jonathan Herrera has hit .247 with an on-base percentage of just .289.

Troy Tulowitzki Injury: Rockies SS Begins Tougher Workout Regimen

Injured Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki is trying to get back on the field before the end of the season, and he recently started more arduous workouts to help him get closer to that goal.

As part of his comeback from left groin surgery in June, shortstop Troy Tulowitzki went through his toughest day Friday, with a grueling set of movement exercises -- running and lateral movement, among others -- administered by head athletic trainer Keith Dugger at AT&T Park.

"We signed up for this because we want to be out there on the field, so just watching is tough," Tulowitkzi said.

Colorado Rockies All-Star SS Troy Tulowitzki -- who was believed to be done for the year, according to CBS's Jon Heyman -- may yet return for some action in the 2012 MLB season:

The 27-year-old shortstop has played in 47 games in the 2012 season, limited to only 203 plate appearances. His impressive .287/.360/.486 slash has been sorely missed by a struggling Rockies team. Colorado currently sits 17.5 games behind first place and is second-last in the NL Wild Card hunt at 16.5 games behind the Atlanta Braves.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports is reporting that SS Troy Tulowitzki's season could be over. His sources have indicated that Tulo, though recovering, may instead be shut down to ensure a healthy return in 2013, when the team will have a chance to reload and try for the NL West again.

The Colorado Rockies currently sit at 37-60 and 17.5 games behind the NL West-leading San Francisco Giants. Tulowitzki has played in only 47 games for the Rockies in 2012 and a combined 203 late appearances.

He appeared to be on track for a June return, but pulled himself from one of his rehab games with a strained left groin. The Rockies have begun to use rookie SS Josh Rutledge in his place.

Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki is working hard to recover from groin surgery to remove scar tissue and address chronic pain in his groin, and although most estimates have the young star out until August he is starting to feel better and is generally pleased with his progress in his recovery. As he said on Thursday, "I'm feeling better every day." The update comes via Troy E. Renck and Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post as a footnote to their story about the Rockies getting back to baseball after the all-star break, but Tulowitzki's status is anything but a footnote to the franchise.

Although the team has suffered through a string of unfortunate injuries in 2012 and is no longer primed for a playoff push, it is good to hear that Tulowitzki is recovering well. There is no rush to get him back on the field, but his long-term health is vital to the future of the franchise.

Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki underwent successful surgery on Thursday to repair an irritated nerve in his left going. The operation removed scar tissue that was bothering the Rockies' star. The timetable for Tulowitzki's return is 6-8 weeks.

The Rockies have struggled immensely without their two-time All-Star in the lineup, as the team has now lost 12 of their last 13 games. Tulo hasn't played since a May 30 contest vs. the Houston Astros.

Veteran Marco Scutaro has replaced Tulowitzki as Colorado's everyday shorstop. The 36-year old Scutaro is hitting .273 with four homers and 18 RBI this season.

Troy Tulowitzki Injury: Return Isn't Expected Until August

Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki will likely miss around six weeks as he recovers from upcoming groin surgery, as Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports. The team hasn't officially announced a time table yet, but Renck says that conservative estimates don't have the shortstop returning until some time in August.

Tulowitzki is scheduled to have arthroscopic surgery Thursday morning in Philadelphia, where the Rockies are playing the Phillies currently. The surgery will remove scar tissue from a nerve in his groin area, which is creating significant pain for the Rockies' star player.

Renck notes that the injury is not a sports hernia, and there's nothing wrong with Tulowitzki's hip labrum. The team believes that it has the issue figured out for the long-term, but they'll surely miss his presence in the upcoming weeks.

Troy Tulowitzki Injury: Lingering Injury Stumping Doctors, Still No Timetable For Return

Troy Tulowitzki's injury issues this season have been awful for the Colorado Rockies, and his most recent one has started to fall squarely into the category of 'just strange'. While coming off an injury in a rehab stint at AAA Colorado Springs, Tulo hurt himself while running the bases and was immediately pulled.

Two MRIs later, the Denver Post reports that doctors can't seem to figure out the exact cause of his injury:

"We're not sure what's wrong," he said.

Tulowitzki flew here Monday to consult with Dr. Bill Meyers to determine whether he suffered a sports hernia. "Sports hernia" is the common name for athletic pubalgia, which is a tear of muscles in the lower abdomen.

If it is a sports hernia, surgery will most likely be required on the star Shortstop.

Not only is the lingering, mystery injury hurting the Rockies -- they clearly have been missing his offense and especially his defense in the past few, error filled series -- but also his chances at being named an All Star again. He lost his slim lead in the NL Shortstop voting earlier on Tuesday, likely because he just hasn't been able to play. Until they know exactly what's wrong and how to stop it, we won't know when to expect Troy to return to the Rockies.

Troy Tulowitzki Injury: Rockies SS Will Be Re-Evaluated On Monday

Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki will travel to Philadelphia on Monday to have his groin injury re-evaluated by Dr. William Meyers. It's possible that Tulowitzki has a sports hernia.

Dr. William Meyers, a surgeon with extensive experience in sports hernia injuries, will look at Tulowitzki’s two previous MRI reports plus conduct his own evaluation. Meyers performed a sports hernia surgery on Rangers star Josh Hamiltion in November 2011. Meyers also has operated on football players Donovan McNabb and Jeremy Shockey, and hockey player Tomas Holmstrom.

Tulowitzki was 2-for-2 with a homer during the game, but he pulled himself out of the game after running the bases.

Tulowitzki has been on the disabled list since May 31 with a strained left groin, but there was optimism that he'd be able to return soon after beginning his minor league rehab assignment on Wednesday. Unfortunately, that didn't even last a game before the shortstop appeared to have a setback, making it unclear when he'll be able to return to the Rockies.

He would have been eligible to return on Friday, but now the Rockies may have to go with Marco Scutaro at shortstop for the near future.
