The Colorado Rockies are back on the road following a three-game sweep at the hands of the Atlanta Braves over the weekend. While the offense showed up for two of the three games, the Rockies' pitching was non-existent all weekend. On Friday and Saturday the Rockies allowed leads of 5-0 and 6-0 to disappear by the middle of the game. Now they will look for a new start with a road trip out west, beginning with the San Diego Padres.

The Padres (9-20, 7-13 home) bring up the rear in the National League West, 4.5 games behind the Rockies for fourth place. They too lost all three games in their series against the Miami Marlins over the weekend. The Rockies last saw the Padres in Colorado during the middle if April, taking two of three.

This time, though, Colorado will need its offense to show up more than its pitching (though both would be nice!). The Rockies' do have a tough time hitting while out on the West Coast.

The Rockies turn to Drew Pomeranz (0-1, 4.05 ERA), who has not factored into the decision since his first start of the season. His last start was great, allowing one run over 6.2 innings to the Los Angeles Dodgers. He did have a bit of trouble with his four walks, but he also struck out five batters. The saving grace of the game -- definitely not a bullpen that allowed four runs after Pomeranz left the game -- was the offense came back twice in the game, ending with Jason Giambi's walk-off home run.

Edinson Volquez (0-2, 2.92 ERA) has put together two strong starts entering this game. He allowed one run over 14 innings and struck out 11 over that span. He received a no-decision in each game, but the Padres lost each game, 2-1 and 2-0.
