Rockies Vs. Reds: Helton Knocks In 3 In Victory

The Colorado Rockies have shaken themselves from a prolonged slump, at least temporarily. With its 6-3 road victory over the Cincinnati Reds, the Rockies won consecutive games for just the second time since mid-April and may be turning a bit of a corner in a season that has been decidedly middling.

The Rockies jumped on Reds ace Johnny Cueto early on Friday night, with the big blast coming from Todd Helton, who hit a two run homer in the second inning to put Colorado up a deuce. Eric Young Jr. put Colorado up 3-0 in the fourth with an RBI single, and after the Reds tied the game at three the Rockies went up 5-3 in the fifth thanks to a single from Helton and a double from Jordan Pacheco.

Rockies starter Christian Freidrich gave up only those three runs over five innings to pick up the win, thanks in large part to six strikeouts. Rafael Betancourt earned the save with a clean ninth inning.
