Jhoulys Chacin Optioned: Colorado Demotes Struggling Pitcher

The Colorado Rockies have demoted starting pitcher Jhoulys Chacin to Triple-A Colorado Springs after he struggled badly in his first five outings of the season, as Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports. In announcing the move, the Rockies say they'll make a corresponding roster move before Friday's game.

The best starter for Colorado last season, Chacin insists he's not injured but he simply hasn't looked the same this spring. Other than a solid seven-inning appearance against Milwaukee on April 20, Chacin has struggled in every start he's made for the Rockies this season.

Things have been especially bad over the past two outings, as the 24-year-old has given up 12 runs in 9.2 innings with eight strikeouts and six walks, plus five homers allowed. Hopefully he'll be able to right himself in Triple-A while the Rockies look for better options in the present.
