After Sunday's 11-5 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Colorado Rockies have now lost three straight series, including two sweeps. The last series the Rockies won was against the Dodgers at Coors Field.
Things started off well for the Rockies with four straight singles and two runs scored. The RBIs went to Carlos Gonzalez and Michael Cuddyer. A Ramon Hernandez plated the team's third run of the inning on a ground out. Gonzalez would strike again in the seventh inning on an RBI ground out while Marco Scutaro came through with an RBI single in the fourth inning.
Ted Lilly (5-0, 2.11 ERA) took the brunt of that attack, allowing all five runs over 6.1 innings. He allowed six hits, walked three and struck out one.
Alex White (0-2, 6.75 ERA), on the other hand, regressed from his first start. He allowed six runs over 4.1 innings The big blows came in the fifth when White allowed a bases-loaded triple to clear the runners and A.J. Ellis' three-run home run off of Matt Reynolds.
Abreu, it should be noted, came into the game in during the fourth inning after Matt Kemp left the game with an apparent hamstring injury. The Rockies had to move Tyler Colvin to center field just an inning later after a ball to Dexter Fowler's head caused blurred vision. Jordan Pacheco came in to play first base.
Andre Ethier and Don Mattingly were ejected in the fifth inning for arguing with the home plate umpire.
Esmil Rogers finished the game on the mound for the Rockies and allowed two more runs.
The Rockies (13-20, 5-10 away) stay on the road and head to San Francisco for a quick two-game series against the Giants, which starts on Monday.

If the Colorado Rockies are going to avoid a sweep at the hands of the Los Angeles Dodgers, they will be forced to do so without Dexter Fowler. According to Thomas Harding of MLB.com, Fowler was removed from the game because of some side effects from being hit in the head by a throw from A.J. Ellis:
@harding_at_mlb: Awaiting report on #Rockies OF Dexter Fowler, hit in face/head by throw from #Dodger C A.J. Ellis in 4th. Colvin to CF, Jordan Pacheco at 1B
@harding_at_mlb: #Rockies Dexter Fowler was removed from game with the #Dodgers with blurred vision
The Rockies CF has struggled at the plate this season, batting just .221 with 14 RBI's. Fowler has hit four home runs this season and has great speed to make an impact on the bases.

The Los Angeles Dodgers will be without center fielder Matt Kemp for the remainder of Sunday's game against the Colorado Rockies. Kemp grounded out to end the third inning and did not come back for the top of the fourth inning. It appears to be his hamstring. Tony Gwynn Jr. moved over to center field while Bobby Abreu entered the game to play left field.
The Rockies currently lead the game, 4-2, scoring all three runs in the first inning. Carlos Gonzalez and Michael Cuddyer hit back-to-back RBI singles while Ramon Hernandez hit an RBI ground out. Marco Scutaro drove in the fourth run during the fourth inning.
Kemp and A.J. Ellis each drove in a run for the Dodgers. Alex White and Ted Lilly continue to duel in this Sunday afternoon contest.

On Saturday, Rockies left-hander Jorge De La Rosa was forced to leave a rehab start early after experiencing tightness in his forearm. He pitched just one inning for double-A Tulsa.
De La Rosa, who is a year removed from elbow ligament surgery, threw 28 pitches, 24 strikes, while allowing four runs for Tulsa. The left-hander told The Post earlier this week that he experiences tightness the day after he pitches, and it eventually goes away. It’s common after the surgery, however he’s never felt the tightness while he pitched. De La Rosa has likely learned from last season. He privately pitched through pain for a few weeks a year ago before then his elbow ligament eventually tore.

The setback probably pushes De La Rosa's return to the Rockies back by at least a week, according to Troy Renck.

Colorado Rockies manager is trying to find more playing time for Tyler Colvin. On Saturday it was as the center fielder. On Sunday, Colvin is taking the place of Todd Helton, who normally gets the end of the weekend off. Jason Giambi has previously taken these starts, but Colvin is hitting .315/.333/.574 in 25 games (57 plate appearances).
Here is Sunday's Rockies lineup:
2B Marco Scutaro
1B Tyler Colvin
LF Carlos Gonzalez
RF Michael Cuddyer
SS Troy Tulowitzki
C Ramon Hernandez
3B Chris Nelson
CF Dexter Fowler
P Alex White
Fowler makes his return to the lineup, as does Hernandez. Wilin Rosario drew the start behind the plate on Saturday night.
And the Dodgers' lineup:
LF Tony Gwynn Jr.
2B Mark Ellis
CF Matt Kemp
RF Andre Ethier
1B James Loney
C A.J. Ellis

The Colorado Rockies are 1-4 on this current eight-game road trip and are in a bad position on Sunday. The team has already lost this weekend series to the Los Angeles Dodgers and is out to avoid the sweep. The team will turn to one of its young pitchers to stem the tide.
Alex White (0-1, 2.84 ERA) made his 2012 debut on this road trip when the team played the San Diego Padres. He allowed two runs in 6.1 innings while striking out five. But he didn't have the power of the Rockies' bats with him. He picked up the loss in the 3-1 decision.
Ted Lilly (4-0, 1.41 ERA) is making his second start against the Rockies this season. Back on May 1, Lilly surrendered two runs -- a season high -- on four hits in six innings. The two runs scored on a Carlos Gonzalez home run. Can the Rockies do to Lilly what they were unable to do Chris Capuano on Friday: spoil a perfect record?

The Colorado Rockies took part in a pitchers' duel on Saturday night but came out on the wrong side of the score, losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers, 2-1. The Rockies managed to pick up just four hits in the losing effort.
Aaron Harang (2-2, 4.46 ERA) baffled the Rockies for eight innings, allowing the one run on a Tyler Colvin home run in the seventh inning. He did give up doubles to Wilin Rosario and Jonathan Herrera. Kenley Jansen picked up his third save of the season with a 1-2-3 inning, striking out Carlos Gonzalez and easily putting down Troy Tulowitzki and Todd Helton.
Juan Nicasio (ND, 4.65 ERA) allowed a Juan Uribe RBI single in the fifth inning for the only blemish over his seven innings. He struck out nine batters. Josh Outman was charged with the other run, though Matt Belisle was on the mound when the run scored. Outman started the bottom of the eighth inning and gave up an infield single to James Loney. Belisle came in and two batters later, Tony Gwynn Jr. singled in Loney for the winning run.
The Rockies (13-19, 5-9 away) close out this series on Sunday afternoon with Alex White on the mound.

The Colorado Rockies had nothing going for them until the bottom of the ninth inning in Friday's 7-3 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. But that was too little to matter much in the final outcome, obviously. The Rockies are back at it again on Saturday night with Juan Nicasio on the mound.
Nicasio (2-1, 5.35) lost his first game of the season in his last start, a 7-2 defeat at the bats of the Atlanta Braves. He allowed six runs over five innings, including Freddie Freeman three-run home run. In his start before that, Nicasio threw six-plus strong innings against the Dodgers at Coors Field, allowing two runs on nine hits and two walks.
Opposing him will be Aaron Harang (1-2, 5.24 ERA), who opposed Nicasio back on that April 30 start. The Rockies tagged Harang for five runs in 5.2 innings. He then rebounded with two runs allowed in six innings against the Chicago Cubs. However, he took a no-decision while his team took the 4-3 loss.

The Colorado Rockies lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night, 7-3, ending the brief respite the team had following Wednesday's 6-2 victory over the San Diego Padres. Rockies hitters had nothing going against Dodgers starter Chris Capuano while Rockies starter Jamie Moyer labored through five innings.
Capuano (5-0, 2.06 ERA) was mostly untouchable, allowing just a Michael Cuddyer home run in the seventh inning. He gave up four hits in total, walked none and struck out three. The Rockies did get a couple of runs in the ninth inning on a Cudyer sacrifice fly and Dexter Fowler triple, but that was it.
Moyer (1-3, 4.66 ERA) allowed the first five Los Angeles runs, including three driven in by former Rockie infielder Mark Ellis (solo home run and two-run double). Using 95 pitches, Moyer did wind up striking out seven batters. Carlos Torres allowed a seventh-inning home run to Andre Ethier while Esmil Rogers followed in the next inning by surrendering a lead-off home run to Juan Uribe.
The Rockies (13-18, 5-8 away) will have Juan Nicasio on the mound for Saturday evening's game.

On Friday night, the Colorado Rockies announced that left-handed pitcher Drew Pomeranz was sent down to the Triple-A Colorado Springs Sky Sox while left-handed pitcher Josh Outman has been reinstated from the 15-day disabled list:
#Rockies reinstate LHP Josh Outman from 15-day DL, option LHP Drew Pomeranz to Triple-A. Outman (#88) is available for tonight's game.
— Colorado Rockies (@Rockies) May 12, 2012
Outman had been expected to start the season in the majors with the Rockies, but he had an oblique strain just days before the stat of the season, sending him to the DL. The injury came about as result of food poisoning. After a few minor league rehab starts, Outman is now ready to join the Rockies' bullpen, which could use some help with the recent failures from Esmil Rogers and others.
Pomeranz, on the other hand, leaves the Rockies to work out some things while in the minors. He went 0-2 with a 4.70 ERA in five starts. He struck out 20 and walked 15 in 23 innings pitched. His demotion now sorts out the rotation for the moment, allowing Christian Friedrich to have another start.
