Rockies Vs. Padres Final Score: 5-Run 5th Inning Delivers 5-1 Victory For Pittsburgh

The Colorado Rockies will escape Pittsburgh with just one victory against the Pirates. After winning the first game of the doubleheader, the Rockies dropped the second game, 5-1. The culprit: five runs allowed by Jhoulys Chacin and two misplayed balls by Carlos Gonzalez in left field, all in the fifth inning.

After Alex Presley doubled for the Pirates to start things during the bottom half of the fifth, Carlos Gonzalez had trouble with the ball in the sun on back-to-back plays, allowing a Nate McLouth RBI double and an Andrew McCutchen RBI single. Then Chacin allowed a two-run home run to Garrett Jones and a solo home run to Pedro Alvarez, who hit one in the first game of the day.

The Rockies scored their only run of the day on a Ramon Hernandez home run in the seventh inning. Charlie Morton allowed that one run over his seven innings of work.

Zach Putnam, called up because teams are allowed to have a 26-man roster for a split doubleheader, pitched one inning of relief after Chacin and allowed just one hit, as did Rex Brother and Edgmer Escalona.

The Rockies (9-9, 4-5 away) are off on Thursday and return home for a weekend series with the New York Mets at Coors Field.

Rockies Vs. Pirates Final Score: Colorado's Bullpen Comes Up Short (Again) In 5-4 Loss To Pittsburgh

Colorado Rockies fans know Clint Barmes all too well. They now know him as the guy who had trouble hitting while playing for the team. After Tuesday night's 5-4 loss, they know him as the guy who hit two doubles and the game-tying home run for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Barmes hammered a pitch from Matt Belisle to start the bottom of the eighth inning, knotting the game at 4-4. A few batters later, Casey McGehee singled in Nate McLouth for the 5-4 lead and the victory.

A solid Jamie Moyer start went to waste after a two-run seventh inning gave way to a 3-2 Pittsburgh Pirates victory, but Carlos Gonzalez did his best to temporarily make Moyer's six innings of one-run ball worth it during the eighth inning. With Marco Scutaro on second base, Gonzalez knocked out his second home run of the game, the fifth multi-home run game of his career. He hit his first home run of the season, also a two-run blast, in the first inning.

Rex Brothers relieved Moyer to start the seventh inning, but it turned into a struggle for the young lefty. After an Alex Presley double and a Jose Tabata single, Andrew McCutchen entered the batter's box with a chance to erase a 2-1 deficit for the Pirates. And that he did -- with a two-run double to center field, plating his second and third RBI of the night. Brothers left one batter later, having walked Casey McGehee. Josh Roenicke then entered the game and swiftly ended the inning.

The Rockies (8-8, 3-4 away) will conclude this series on Wednesday with a doubleheader that starts at 10:35 a.m. MT.

Rockies Vs. Pirates: Monday's Game Postponed, Will Be Made Up As Doubleheader On Wednesday

While the snow hasn't shown up in Pittsburgh, the Colorado Rockies' game on Monday night against the Pirates has been postponed due to inclement weather. It will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon. Game 1 on Wednesday is still scheduled for original 10:35 a.m. start time while the second game will commence 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.

The Pirates have moved Kevin Correia's start to Tuesday while James McDonald will start the first game of the doubleheader on Wednesday and will be followed by Charlie Morton to finish the series that afternoon. The Rockies' scheduled pitchers are Jamie Moyer, Juan Nicasio and Jhoulys Chacin.

The poor weather conditions had been expected, as forecasts had originally called for snow.
