Mariners Vs. Rockies Final Score: Seattle Wins 7-2

The Colorado Rockies lost 7-2 to the Seattle Mariners in their final exhibition game before the beginning of the 2012 regular season on Wednesday. The Mariners offense got to Rockies starter Jhoulys Chacin in the fourth inning and Colorado's offense couldn't muster enough offense to make things interesting.

After the two teams traded scoreless frames for three innings, the Mariners got to Chacin for five runs in the fourth inning. They added a couple of insurance runs off Alex White in the fifth inning and then let the bullpen hold off Colorado's offense for the remainder of the game.

Mariners starter Hector Noesi, acquired along with Jesus Montero in the deal that sent Michael Pineda to New York, gave up just one run on seven hits over seven innings of work. John Jaso and Ichiro each got on base three times apiece for Seattle. Wilin Rosario went 2-for-3 with two doubles as Colorado's catcher.

Rockies Vs. Mariners Final Score: Colorado Wins 9-8

Juan Nicasio struggled in his start for the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday, but the offense picked him up with a big sixth inning, and the Rockies defeated the Seattle Mariners 9-8.

Related: Colorado Rockies claim Adam Ottavino From Cardinals

Nicasio gave up four runs on eight hits in 4-1/3 innings of work and the Rockies were down 8-5 heading into the bottom half of the sixth inning. The Rockies were able to scrape together four runs in the inning and the bullpen was able to hold the lead over the final three innings.

Jonathan Herrera had three RBI, while Michael Cuddyer scored twice. The win improved the Rockies to 16-14 overall this spring.

Rockies 2012 Roster: Colorado Claims SP Adam Ottavino Off Waivers

The Colorado Rockies have added some additional starting pitching depth, according to their official Twitter account, claiming SP Adam Ottavino from the St. Louis Cardinals Tuesday afternoon:

Ottavino pitch in the majors in 2010 with three starts and two appearances out of the Cardinals bullpen. In 2011, Ottavino played in 26 games with the Cardinals' Triple-A affiliate. He compiled a total of 141 innings with a 4.85 ERA and 4.49 FIP.

The Rockies enter the season with a starting rotation of Jeremy Guthrie, Jamie Moyer, Juan Nicasio, Jhoulys Chacin and Drew Pomeranz, but with their No. 2 starter -- Jamie Moyer -- turning 50 this November, the team may need extra depth in the starting pitcher position.

Mariners Vs. Rockies: Juan Nicasio Getting Last Prep Work In

The Colorado Rockies and the Seattle Mariners once again clash on the baseball diamond as part of a three-game series to close out Spring Training 2012. Taking the mound for the Rockies will be Juan Nicasio, who is currently scheduled to start on Sunday against the Houston Astros.

Nicasio has struck out 21 in 23.1 innings with a 3.09 ERA. He's come so far, so quickly since last August when an Ian Desmond liner sent Nicasio to the ground, resulting in a broken neck.

Erasmo Ramirez has thrown just seven innings this spring, allowing one run and striking out three. He pitched in Double-A and Triple-A last season.

Here is the Rockies' lineup for the day:

Rockies Vs. Mariners Final Score: Seattle Wins 7-2

Jamie Moyer allowed four runs (though only one was earned) in five innings of work for the Rockies, while Colorado could not find any offense against Seattle starter Felix Hernandez, and the Mariners took a 7-2 win in Cactus League play on Monday afternoon.

Related: Rockies 2012 Roster: Chatwood, Young And Herrera Make Team

Hernandez pitched four innings, striking out six Rockies batters while allowing two hits and zero runs. The Mariners took a 4-1 lead into the sixth inning, where they added two more runs, which was more than enough on this afternoon. Colorado pushed its first run across in the fifth inning and got one more in the seventh. Wilin Rosario was the only Colorado player to have a multi-hit day.

Colorado Rockies Roster 2012: Alex White Optioned On Monday

The Colorado Rockies announced a roster move on Monday afternoon: pitcher Alex White has been sent to the minor leagues, though he will stay with the team through Wednesday once the Rockies finish their spring training schedule:

This move likely clears a spot for Tyler Chatwood, acquired during the offseason for Chris Iannetta, in the bullpen. White was acquired last July along with Drew Pomeranz as the main pieces in the Ubaldo Jimenez trade. White has a 6.19 ERA in 16.2 innings this spring.

What remains to be seen is whether White will remain a reliever at Triple-A Colorado Springs or if he will return to starting. He is awaiting any potential legal issues from his earlier DUI this spring.

Rockies Vs. Mariners Preview: Jamie Moyer Takes On Felix Hernandez

The Colorado Rockies (16-13) take on the Seattle Mariners (14-8) Monday afternoon in what may be one of the most unusual matchups of the Spring Training season. The Mariners send 25-year-old (or at least 25 for another six days) Felix Hernandez to the mound, and opposing him will be 49-year-old Rockies pitcher Jamie Moyer.

Moyer won a rotation spot late last month, giving the veteran, veteran lefty a chance to become the second-oldest pitcher to the MLB's history. Compared to Hernandez, Moyer's career started slowly as he pitched only 290.1 innings before the age of 26. Hernandez, meanwhile, has pitched 1396.1 innings, making his major league debut at age 19.

Rockies Vs. Indians Final Score: Cleveland Wins 12-10

The Cleveland Indians rallied from a 10-5 deficit to beat the Colorado Rockies 12-10 in Cactus League play on Sunday, but the big story from the game was Ubaldo Jimenez, who hit Troy Tulowitzki with a pitch in the first inning. The HBP from Jimenez -- a former Colorado Rockies starter -- caused both benches to clear.

Colorado manager Jim Tracy was extremely displeased about it.

Rockies manager Jim Tracy called Jimenez's hitting Tulowitzki and following it up by stepping toward him "the most gutless act I've seen in 35 years in baseball," and he called for Major League Baseball to take action.

"He intentionally threw at him," Tracy said. "He should be suspended. I'm gong to be very disappointed if he doesn't."

Tulowitzki was not injured.

Tyler Colvin had a huge day at the plate for the Rockies, going 4-5 with six RBI. Travis Hafner was nearly as good for Cleveland in a 3-5, five RBI performance.

Troy Tulowitzki Leaves Game After Ubaldo Jimenez Plunks Him

Troy Tulowitzki left Sunday's game against the Cleveland Indians on Sunday afternoon after former Rockies pitchers Ubaldo Jimenez intentionally threw at him during the first inning. By all accounts, Jimenez then went toward home plate and gestured for Tulowitzki to come at him. Marco Scutaro was able to keep Jimenez from going any further while the bases cleared. Tulowitzki left the game with what was described as a ball to the back, but the team announced that he went to the hospital for x-rays on his left elbow.

Jimenez stayed in the game and both sides were issued warnings.

Colorado Rockies Roster 2012: Wilin Rosario Makes 25-Man Roster As Backup Catcher

The Colorado Rockies will open the season with Wilin Rosario as the backup catcher to starter Ramon Hernandez. Rosario's main competition, Wil Nieves, has been reassigned on Sunday afternoon:

Rosario has hit .391/.408/.674 with three home runs and 11 RBI through 19 games. In 2011, Rosario came back from a 2010 ACL injury to bash 21 home runs before he spent the last month of the season in the majors. He added three more home runs as a major leaguer, but he hit just .204 in 54 at-bats.

Also from these moves, Escalona's move results in Josh Roenicke and Esmil Rogers making the bullpen.

Indiana Vs. Rockies: Ubaldo Jimenez Faces Colorado In Cactus League Play

The Colorado Rockies will see a familiar face on the mound in Sunday's Cactus League game against the Cleveland Indians when they bat against Ubaldo Jimenez. The former Rockies ace moved to Cleveland right before the MLB Trade Deadline, giving the Rockies Drew Pomeranz, Alex White and two others in return.

While Pomeranz has won a spot in the Rockies' rotation, Jimenez has struggled this spring with a 1-4 record and a 6.27 ERA in nearly 19 innings. He's struck out just 13 batters while walking 10. His velocity has stayed in the low-90s that he threw last season.

The Rockies will counter with Jeremy Guthrie, this year's Opening Day starter. In his previous spring start, Guthrie allowed four runs on 10 hits in six innings. This will be his final tuneup before his April 6 start against the Houston Astros, marking the start of the Rockies' 2012 regular season.

Here is the Rockies' lineup for Sunday:

2B Marco Scutaro

C Ramon Hernandez

Rockies Vs. White Sox Recap: Drew Pomeranz, Chris Nelson Shine In 3-1 Colorado Win

Throughout much of Saturday's Cactus League game between the Colorado Rockies and the Chicago White Sox, it was all Rockies. Sparkling pitching by Colorado kept the ChiSox scoreless into the ninth inning, when only a solo Adam Dunn home run off of Matt Reynolds kept Chicago from being shut out.

Starting pitcher Drew Pomeranz went six strong innings of scoreless baseball, striking out two and walking one while allowing four hits. He improves his Spring Training record to 3-0 with a 0.53 ERA.

The Rockies got on the board in the top of the second inning when Jordan Pacheco doubled and Chris Nelson brought him home two batters later with a triple. Nelson drove in another run in the top of the eighth when Tyler Colvin doubled and Nelson put an RBI single into center field. The Rockies would add their final run in the top of the ninth on a solo home run by Wil Nieves.

Rockies Vs. Rangers Recap: Yu Darvish Dazzles Colorado As Rangers Win 5-3

The Colorado Rockies entered their Friday matchup against the Texas Rangers with an eye on their MLB regular season opener against the Houston Astros on Friday, April 6, so it was all about ironing out the finer points in one of their last Cactus League games this season. Japanese star pitcher Yu Darvish turned into quite an off-season story as the Rangers won the rights to negotiation a contract after a very competitive bidding process, and on Friday he looked every bit like the big-name player the Rangers felt they pursued and signed.

Darvish pitched six strong innings and allowed six hits and three earned runs while striking out 11 Rockies batters and walking just one. He tied up nearly everyone in the Colorado lineup, although Jason Giambi did touch him up for a two-run homer in the second inning to tie the game at two. From there, the Rangers chipped away at Colorado starter Jhoulys Chacin and picked up three more runs to seal the 5-3 victory. Chacin finished his Cactus League season with a 4.84 ERA and a 1-2 overall record.

Colorado Rockies 2012 Rotation Includes Jamie Moyer

Colorado Rockies manager Jim Tracy has announced his 2012 starting rotation for the team and 49-year-old Jamie Moyer has it after signing a minor-league deal with the club during the offseason. He will start the second game of the season, a Saturday, April 7, contest against the Houston Astros. He will be the oldest start on an Opening Day roster as a result of this move.

Moyer is 2-0 with a 2.77 ERA in four starts this March. He's struck out 11 in 13 innings so far.

The anchor of the rotation will be Jeremy Guthrie, who had been named the Opening Day starter earlier in March. Juan Nicasio will pitch after Moyer while Jhoulys Chacin will start the home opener on April 9. The Rockies won't use a five-man rotation the first time through because of the day off on April 10. Drew Pomeranz will draw a Sunday, April 15, start for the Rockies. He is starting the season in extended spring training, however.

Rockies Vs. Indians: Juan Nicasio Takes Mound Against Cleveland

The Colorado Rockies pay a visit to Goodyear Ballpark and the Cleveland Indians on Thursday afternoon, one day after defeating the Chicago White Sox, 8-5. Jamie Moyer didn't have his greatest start this spring in that game, but he is still in a strong position to make the rotation. Thursday's starter, Juan Nicasio, is expected to slot in as the No. 4 pitcher for the Rockies this season.

Nicasio has worked his way back from last August's broken neck and has had no limitations on him this spring. He's pitched 10.2 innings and struck out 10 over his last two starts, but he has allowed 10 runs on 15 hits and one walk.

Derek Lowe will start for the split-squad Indians on Thursday. He is 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA in four starts this spring. In his last start, he threw six scoreless innings of seven-hit ball and struck out four.

Here is Thursday's Rockies lineup (via Troy Renck):

CF Eric Young Jr.
2B Marco Scutaro
DH Wilin Rosario
SS Troy Tulowitzki

White Sox Vs. Rockies Final Score: Colorado Wins 8-5

The Colorado Rockies rode one big inning to a 8-5 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday afternoon, pushing their record to 14-11 in Cactus League play so far this spring. After trailing 3-0 early, the Rockies scored eight unanswered runs before stopping a White Sox rally in the ninth inning.

Rockies starter Jamie Moyer didn't have a great outing, giving up three runs on seven hits and three walks over four innings. The bullpen would be dominant from there until Esmil Rogers made things a little bit interesting in the ninth, but he wiggled out of a jam by striking out Tyler Saladino to end the game.

Gavin Floyd started out well for Chicago, but he gave up a pair of runs in the third inning before imploding in a six-run sixth inning by the Rockies. Wilin Rosario was the big man at the plate for Colorado, going 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Dexter Fowler also added a home run on his only hit of the night.

The White Sox rallied late, getting the winning run on deck, but Rogers was ultimately able to get out of the situation. Chicago finished the game with 14 hits, including four different players that got on base three times apiece, but couldn't get enough timely hits.

White Sox Vs. Rockies: Jamie Moyer Keeps Plugging Away, Faces Chicago

The Colorado Rockies avoided being no-hit yesterday by Patrick Corbin and the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday when Jeremy Guthrie singled off Craig Breslow in the top of the sixth inning. But they lost that game, 7-3, heading into Wednesday's contest against a split-squad Chicago White Sox team.

Starting for the Rockies will be the ageless wonder (actually 49 years old) Jamie Moyer, who is pitching for the No. 5 spot in the rotation. In his last start, Moyer picked up his second win of spring training (for whatever that is worth), allowed zero hits and zero walks and struck out four in four innings. Gavin Floyd will oppose him.

Dexter Fowler returns to the leadoff spot in the batting order one day after a move to the eight hole. Jonathan Herrera draws the start at shortstop while Troy Tulowitzki receives some rest as we close out spring training.

Here is the Rockies' lineup (via Troy Renck):

Rockies Vs. Diamondbacks Final Score: Colorado Avoids No-Hit Bid, But Arizona Wins, 7-3

The Colorado Rockies dropped to 13-11 this 2012 Cactus League season with a 7-3 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Snakes held the Rockies hitless for the first 5.1 innings of the game. Patrick Corbin pitched the first five innings of the game while walking two batters and striking out three. Craig Breslow came in for the Diamondbacks to start the sixth inning and saw Dexter Fowler fly out to start the inning, but the pitcher, Jeremy Guthrie, came next to the plate and singled on a ground ball to shortstop John McDonald to end the inning.

Guthrie, the Rockies' Opening Day starter, didn't fare well on the mound on Tuesday afternoon. He was knocked around for six runs (four earned) on 10 hits and a walk in six innings. He struck out two. Rafael Betancourt struck out two in the seventh inning, but a fielding error by left fielder Chandler Laurent allowed Lyle Overbay to score from first base on a Ryan Roberts single.

The Rockies scored two runs in the sixth on a Marco Scutaro two-run single with the bases loaded. Laurent compensated for his fielding error with a leadoff double in the top of the ninth inning and then scored on a Brandon Wood single.

Tyler Colvin, expected to be the Rockies' fourth outfielder, had his own fielding gaffe when his glove got caught on his jersey, preventing him from catching the ball.

Colorado Rockies Roster 2012: Casey Blake Appears Unlikely To Make Opening Day Squad

The Colorado Rockies signed Casey Blake during the offseason as a potential starting third baseman for the 2012 season, a stopgap until Nolan Arenado became ready for the jump to the majors. That is now looking more unlikely by the day, according to the Denver Post's Troy Renck.

Renck believes that Blake's health and $2 million guaranteed salary if he makes the roster will prove too much for the Rockies to keep the third baseman on the team. He had neck surgery to complete an injury-plagued 2011, and he hasn't hit well during spring training, for what it is worth (.150/.190/.300, 1 HR).

Chris Nelson and Jordan Pacheco have been playing third base for the Rockies and are likely to form a combo at the hot corner during the season.

Rockies Vs. Angels Final Score: Colorado Defeats Los Angeles On Road, 6-2

Another day, another victory over the Colorado Rockies. After defeating the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday afternoon, 7-3, the Rockies traveled for a road contest against the Los Angeles Angels, which they won, 6-2.

The Rockies scored two runs in the fourth inning on a Wilin Rosario sac fly and a Tyler Colvin single. But it was Jason Giambi who opened up the game when he plated on a single Marco Scutaro and Carlos Gonzalez in the fifth inning. In the top of the sixth, Carlos Gonzalez did some damage of his own when he doubled in two runs on a ball hit to center field.

Drew Pomeranz threw 85 pitches in four innings, surrendering a run on Kendrys Morales' single in the fourth inning. He was able to get Albert Pujols to pop out and ground out in the two at-bats they battled each other.

Jordan Pacheco, though, had a tough day at third base, committing back-to-back errors to start the sixth inning. The second one (on a ball hit by Pujols) allowed Howie Kendrick to score from second base. But that was all the scoring the Angels had in them. They threatened in the bottom of the eighth with two men on and two out, but Josh Outman was able to get Bobby Wilson to ground out to end the inning. Outman struck out three in two innings of work.

Complete box score.

Reds Vs. Rockies: Todd Helton, Casey Blake Power Colorado To 7-3 Victory

The Colorado Rockies rode the power emanating from the bats of Todd Helton and Casey Blake to a 7-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday afternoon. Helton hit a solo home run to right field in the second inning and then followed it with one to the opposite filed in the fourth inning, each time tying the game. Blake's two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth proved to be the game-winner for the Rockies.

Jhoulys Chacin started for the Rockies and allowed two runs on six hits and two walks. He struck out two batters and hit Drew Stubbs with a ball. Chacin allowed the first run of the game on a sacrifice fly and then surrendered the second run on a Brandon Phillips double followed by a Zack Cozart sacrifice bunt and a Joey Votto single. In his final inning of work, Chacin has walked the bases loaded when he put Scott Rolen on with one out. He then induced a double play, Troy Tulowitzki to Todd Helton.

In the eighth inning Matt Reynolds allowed three singles to load the bases, including two with two out. He then walked Brandon Phillips to put the Reds' third run on the board. However, Brandon Roberts doubled in two runs in the bottom of the eight to give the Rockies a four-run cushion.

Alex White threw two innings in relief of Chacin, struck out three and allowed zero runs on two hits.

Colorado plays the Los Angeles Angels on Monday afternoon.

Reds Vs. Rockies: Colorado Looks For Winning Streak On Sunday

The Colorado Rockies improved to 11-10 on Saturday afternoon following an 11-10 victory over the San Francisco Giants. On Sunday afternoon, the Rockies are at Talking Stick to host the Cincinnati Reds (10-13).

The Rockies lost to the Reds, 4-3, on the road on March 16. The Rockies outhit the Reds, 7-5, in that one, but a ninth-inning rally by the Rockies was cut short when Chad Tracy was thrown out at home to end the game. Alex White started that game and had trouble in the second inning, mostly off of a three-run home run by Drew Stubbs.

On Sunday, however, Jhoulys Chacin will be on the mound. He's posted a 4.09 ERA in four starts, but is looking to rebound from his last start, which saw him allow three runs on seven hits in three innings. Here is the Rockies' lineup with Chacin in it for the game:

vs. , 3/25 - Young8, Herrera4, Gonzalez7, Tulowitzki6, Helton1, Cuddyer9, Hernandez2, Blake7, Chacin1.

The Reds will start Johnny Cueto, who has put up a 4.50 ERA in eight innings pitched.

Root Sports will televise this game at 2:10 p.m. MT and will be shown on tape delay by MLB Network on Sunday night at 8:00 p.m. MT.

Colorado Rockies Face San Francisco In Spring Training Game Today At Scottsdale Stadium

The Colorado Rockies take their 10-10 spring training record on the road Saturday for a 205 MT Cactus League game with National League West rival San Francisco at Scottsdale Stadium.

The Rockies will start right-hander Juan Nicasio, who is working to make a comeback from a broken neck suffered a year ago. Right-handed reliever Josh Roenicke, who is battling for a spot in the Colorado bullpen come opening day, is also expected to see action as a featured relief pitcher against the Giants.

San Francisco, 12-8 in exhibition play this spring and tied with the Los Angeles Dodgers for the second-best record in the Cactus League behind Oakland, will throw minor league pitcher Travis Blackley against the Rockies. Giants' star catcher Buster Posey is expected to make his first start of the spring. Posey has been recovering from a broken leg suffered on May 26 last year, which ended his 2011 season.

The Giants will be playing with a split squad. The other San Francisco squad will go up against Cincinnati in Goodyear, Ariz. Colorado and San Francisco both lost on Friday. The Rockies fell 10-8 to the Chicago Cubs, while San Francisco was defeated by Texas 4-1.

2012 Rockies Roster: Colorado Cuts 5 More Players On Friday

Troy Renck of The Denver Post is reporting the Colorado Rockies have cut an additional five players, including top prospects OF Tim Wheeler and 3B Nolan Arenado:

Wheeler played at the Double-A level in 2011, where he clobbered an impressive 33 homers, stole 21 bases and hit a strong .287/.365/.535 slash. Arenado, the team's top prospect according to Marc Hulet, split his time between the Rookie League and High-A in 2011. He hit a combined 26 home runs and managed a decent .298/.349/.487 slash in High-A.

Jeremy Guthrie Named Rockies' 2012 Opening Day Starter

Back in February, the Baltimore Orioles agreed to trade Jeremy Guthrie to the Colorado Rockies in exchange for Jason Hammel and Matt Lindstrom, and after a strong spring the Rockies officially named Guthrie their opening day starter on April 6 against the Houston Astros. Manager Jim Tracy said the Rockies haven't set their rotation beyond Guthrie on Friday, but the move is one that the right-handed pitcher should be comfortable with, considering he started on opening day with the Orioles in 2009 and 2011.

Guthrie's stats are nothing to write home about. He hasn't posted a winning record since 2007, his career Ks/9 is a middling 5.52, he has a 4.19 career ERA and 4.68 FIP. His highest fWAR for a single season came in 2007 and 2008, when he produced 2.6 wins above replacement, according to fangraphs.com.

Despite his underwhelming statistical resume, Marc Normandin of SB Nation's Baseball Nation thinks there is more than meets the eye with Guthrie:

What makes Guthrie a strange case is that he doesn't fit the bill of many of the other pitchers who have beat out their FIP. Saunders, Buehrle and Lannan are all among the game's most extreme double-play inducers, picking up a half-dozen or more per season, shaving tenths of a run off of their ERA each year. Guthrie induces more than expected, but less than extra double play per year. He doesn't generate a ton of pop ups, à la (healthy) Chris Young. He's no better with runners on or in scoring position than he is with the bases empty. But there's clearly something going on here.

What Guthrie does is generate grounders that his defense, for all their limitations, has been able to field effectively. He's not an extreme groundball pitcher, as his ground-to-fly ratios tend to be even, but the grounders he does generate have helped him. Nearly 18 percent of the batters he faced in 2011 ended their plate appearance with a ground out, a huge boost to his production considering just 14 percent of them struck out. His career batting average on balls in play for grounders is .214, whereas the league has been between .234 and .245 for his career.

Perhaps he can anchor the Rockies' rotation in 2012. He certainly has a golden opportunity to prove Tracy made the right decision by starting him on Opening Day.

Rockies Vs. Padres Final Score: San Diego Scores Early And Often In 11-6 Win

The Colorado Rockies struggled to halt San Diego's offense on Thursday -- starter Guillermo Miscoso allowed five runs on seven hits in three innings of work, and the man who followed him, Carlos Torres, gave up six runs in two innings. By the end of the fifth inning, the Rockies found themselves down 11-5, and they'd end up losing to the Padres 11-6.

Chad Tracy and Tyler Colvin both were 3-4 at the plate for Colorado, while Eric Young and D.J. LeMahieu had two hits apiece. But they weren't able to keep up with the likes of San Diego's Yasmani Grandal, who finished 3-3 with five RBI.

Cactus League 2012: Rockies Defeat Dodgers In Walkoff On Saturday, Will Play Onle 1 Game On Sunday

The Colorado Rockies picked up an 8-6 win in dramatic fashion on Saturday afternoon when Tim Wheeler hit a two-run walkoff home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. The Rockies held a 6-2 lead entering the top of the ninth, but closer Rafael Betancourt had a blip on the radar by allowing four runs. Three singles, two doubles and a sacrifice fly later, four runners crossed home plate.

But earlier in the game, expected Opening Day starter Jeremy Guthrie was working fast and efficiently, but he did run into troubles late in his appearance. He allowed one run in 4.2 innings

On Sunday, the Rockies will be playing only one game, as the contest against the San Diego Padres has been canceled due to rain. However, the Rockies will play the Seattle Mariners, as originally planned.

Rockies Vs. Reds Final Score: Colorado Falls Short In 9th Inning, Loses To Cincinnati, 4-3

The Colorado Rockies came up one run short in the ninth inning and lost to the Cincinnati Reds, 4-3, on Friday night. Wilkin Castillo singled with men on second and third base, but Chad Tracy attempted to score after Andrew Brown and was gunned down at the plate on a relay throw from right fielder Donald Lutz to catcher Corky Miller, ending the game.

The Rockies saved all of their offense for the top of the ninth inning. With Carlos Fisher pitching, Tyler Colvin started things off with a walk and then moved to second on a Brendan Harris walk. Andrew Brown singled in Colvin before Tim Wheeler struck out swinging for the second out of the inning. Tracy followed with a ground-rule double to score Harris. Brown was called back on the play after the ball was deemed unplayable after being lodged in the outfield fence.

Alex White started for the Rockies but had trouble in the second inning. He allowed a walk and two singles to the first three batters of the frame, the second single scoring a run. He looked on his way to leaving the inning without any more damage done following a strike out of Devin Mesoraco and a fly out to Ryan Hanigan, but then Drew Stubbs hammered a ball over the left center field wall for a three-run home run.

White faced a bases-loaded situation late in the inning after walking Scott Rolen, but Jay Bruce struck out to end the threat. His final line was four innings pitched, four runs allowed on four hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

The Reds' Mat Latos effectively shutdown the Rockies for four innings, allowing two hits and striking out three. Brett Tomko struck out three and didn't allow any Rockies hits over three innings. Fisher took the hook for five hits and all the runs.

The Rockies (7-6) are back in action on Saturday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Root Sports will televise the game.

Rockies Vs. Cubs Final Score: Colorado Takes 7-5 Victory

Wilin Rosario went 2-3 at the plate and drove in two runs, Jhoulys Chacin pitched three scoreless innings, and the Colorado Rockies prevailed 7-5 over the Chicago Cubs in Cactus League play on Thursday afternoon.

Colorado got on the board first with two runs in the bottom of the second inning, and the Cubs would trail until the sixth inning, when they pushed three runs across to take a slim 4-3 lead. But Colorado responded in the bottom half of the sixth to get those three runs right back and claim a 6-4 lead. The two teams traded runs in the seventh, but that was it for the scoring.

Rockies Vs. Dodgers Final Score: Colorado Prevails 5-2; Drew Pomeranz Injured

The Colorado Rockies defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-2 in Cactus League play on Tuesday afternoon, but they lost starting pitcher Drew Pomeranz, who left the game after two innings with tightness in his right hip.

"I am not worried about it all," Pomeranz said. "It just got tight before the game. I told (pitching coach Bob) Apodaca when I was warming up. My arm felt great, but my hip never got loose so I figured it wasn’t worth the risk."

Padres Vs. Rockies Final Score: Colorado Picks Up 11-2 Run Following 8-Run 7th Inning

The Colorado Rockies' bats came alive (for 11 hits) on Monday afternoon and made the San Diego Padres' pitching fall apart, unlike what the Rockies have done in previous games so far this spring. It all came together in the bottom of the seventh inning when the team scored eight runs.

Wilin Rosario began the inning with a walk and then capped the inning much later with a three-run home run, a bomb to center field. In between that, three runs scored by way of two walks and a hit-by-pitch. The two other runs scored by way of a sacrifice fly and a throwing error on a double-steal attempt. Erik Hamren took the hook for most of those runs, allowing six while not recording a single out.

Rosario also singled in Brandon Wood earlier in the game during the fifth inning. Wood drove in a run on a triple in that inning, too.

The Rockies' pitching didn't get off to a great start with Jeremy Guthrie, who allowed a home run to Cameron Maybin to start the game. But it all went smoothly after that, as Guthrie pitched a clean four innings after that while picking up three strikeouts and surrendering two total hits. Esmil Rogers rebounded with a three-inning relief appearance, striking out four and allowing one run (a Carlos Quentin RBI single). Matt Reynolds and Rafael Betancourt each allowed a hit in their lone innings of work.

The Rockies are now 3-6-1 and will be on the road Tuesday for a game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Rockies Vs. Royals Final Score: Colorado Falls, 5-2, To Kansas City

While the final result isn't the most important thing in Spring Training, there is no doubt that the Colorado Rockies would do just about anything to earn a victory at this point. Unfortunately, the quest for a win will wait another day, as the Rockies fell 5-2 against the Kansas City Royals for their fifth consecutive loss.

Both starting pitchers performed well in this meeting, with Jhoulys Chacin pitching three innings and allowing only one run. Chacin struck out three batters and allowed three hits during his time on the mound. Unfortunately, Chacin couldn't quite match Luis Mendoza, who went four innings and allowed only two hits and no runs.

The Rockies struggled to generate much offense in the loss, despite picking up nine hits. Wilkin Castillo and Brandon Wood each drove in a run for Colorado, with Wood batting 3-for-3 and falling a home run short of the cycle.

Athletics Vs. Rockies Final Score: Oakland Holds On For 6-4 Victory

The Colorado Rockies are now 1-4-1 in the Cactus League after dropping a 6-4 decision to the Oakland Athletics on Friday afternoon. A late pitching collapse once again ruined the day for the Rockies. But the most important thing to come out of this game was Juan Nicasio's return to the mound.

Pitching in a live game for the first time since he broke his neck last August, Nicasio struck out two and allowed one unearned run on five hits over two innings. Wilin Rosario's passed ball during Coco Crisp's at-bat in the first inning allowed Eric Sogard to reach second base and a couple of batters later touch home plate. Nicasio even dealt with a line drive up the middle, but he showed no signs of hesitation on the play, according to all accounts of the game.

As to what else happened in the game, Michael Cuddyer and Todd Helton each drove in a run, the former on a sacrifice fly and the latter on a double. Ben Paulsen and Nolan Arenado each drove in a run in the bottom of the ninth to attempt a comeback that ultimately fell short.

Tyler Chatwood struck out four in three innings, but he allowed the gates to open when he surrendered two runs in the sixth inning. Edwar Cabrera pitched the seventh and eighth innings, allowing runs on a double, a sacrifice fly and a home run.

Colorado hits the road on Saturday to face the Kansas City Royals at 1:05 p.m. MT.

Cactus League 2012: Athletics, Rockies Clash On Friday Afternoon

The Colorado Rockies will look to end their three-game losing streak on Friday when they welcome the Oakland Athletics to Salt Rivers Fields at Talking Stick. But more important than ending a losing streak during Spring Training, Juan Nicasio will be on the mound in a game for the first time since he broke his neck last August.

Nicasio has progressed remarkably since that day in August and has no limitations as he goes through Spring Training. He is expected to be the Rockies' No. 4 starter in the rotation this season.

The Rockies will have a lineup around Nicasio that features all the expected Opening Day starters except for center fielder Dexter Fowler and catcher Ramon Hernandez. Charlie Blackmon and Wilin Rosario start in those positions, respectively, on Friday.

First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. MT and can be heard through MLB.com.

Here is the Rockies' lineup for Friday (via Troy Renck):

CF Charlie Blackmon

Royals Vs. Rockies Final Score: Colorado Loses To Kansas City, 5-0

The Colorado Rockies fell to the Kansas City Royals, 5-0, on Thursday afternoon and are now on a three-game losing streak. But more alarming, the Rockies lost infielder Hector Gomez to injury during the top of the ninth inning. Gomez smacked a double, but as he rounded first base he injured himself and had to be removed from the game. Gomez has had a terrible history with injuries, never putting together that one full solid season the team has hoped for out of him.

Josh Outman had a poor pitching performance with four runs all scored in the fourth inning. He served up a leadoff home run to Yuniesky Betancourt to start the inning and then allowed runs on a ground out, a double and a single before getting out of the inning. He settled down for his final two innings, but the damage was done with a punchless Rockies offense. Dustin Molleken saw Max Ramirez hit a gopher ball in the top of the eighth inning.

The Rockies managed to come up with seven hits against the Royals, three off of former Rockies pitcher Felipe Paulino. Nolan Arenado, who replaced Casey Blake at third, and Gomez were the only players with extra base hits. Tim Wheeler bunted for a single.

The Rockies host the Oakland Athletics at 1:10 p.m. MT on Friday.

Rockies Vs. Giants: San Francisco Scores 6 Over Final 2 Innings For 8-6 Victory

The Colorado Rockies dropped their second game of the Cactus League, an 8-6 loss to the San Francisco Giants. The Rockies held a 6-2 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, but the pitching didn't hold up over the final two innings, allowing the Giants to pick up the comeback victory. Let's take a look at some performances:

Charlie Blackmon: He led the game off with a home run and finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Michael Cuddyer: The new right fielder continued the scoring in the first inning with a two-run triple that scored Troy Tulowitzki and Todd Helton. He came up with an RBI in the fifth to plate Carlos Gonzalez. Tulowitzki was thrown out at third on the play.

Carlos Gonzalez: He, too, drove in a couple of runs, but on a single in the second inning.

Jeremy Guthrie: The new ace of the staff, Guthrie allowed two runs in three innings by allowing RBI doubles to Pablo Sandoval and Melky Cabrera.

Jamie Moyer: Using his 82 mph fastball, Moyer got through two inning of work with five ground ball outs and a strikeout. That's him knocking on the door for the fifth spot in the rotation. It's faint right now, but don't lose track of that sound.

Esmil Rogers, Stephen Dodson: These are the culprits for the final six runs the Giants scored. Rogers allowed three runs walked four and allowed three hits. Dodson didn't walk anyone, but a couple of doubles and a single played three.

The Rockies (1-2-1) return to Talking Stick on Thursday to host the Kansas City Royals at 1:10 p.m. MT.

Rockies Vs. Cubs Final Score: Chicago Knocks Around Colorado Pitchers

It was not a pleasant day to be a Colorado Rockies pitcher on Tuesday afternoon. The Rockies lost to the Chicago Cubs on the road, 11-4, mostly due to one big inning (four Cubs runs scored) and three home runs.

The Rockies struck first with a Tyler Colvin RBI ground out and a Wilkin Castillo RBI single in the second inning, but Guillermo Moscoso, making his first start in a Rockies uniform, allowed a leadoff home run to Alfonso Soriano and then saw Brett Jackson smack a three-run home run several batters later. Moscoso's final line was two innings pitched, five hits allowed and four batters walked.

Alex White, he of a potential "extreme DUI" charge, relieved Moscoso in the third and allowed one run on an RBI single in the third inning. Dexter Fowler hit a home run in the fifth inning, but Zach Putnam saw Alfonso Soriano hit a two-run home run to start the Cubs' scoring all over again. Rizzo and Wellington Castillo each put a run across home plate to make the score 9-3 after five innings.

After Josh Roenicke pitched a scoreless inning, Chad Bettis came in for the last two innings of the game. He allowed a leadoff single and saw that runner score on a Joe Mather triple. Mather stepped on home plate after a fielder's choice two batters later.

Former Rockie and current Cub Ian Stewart went 0-for-2 with a run scored and a walk. Colvin, who was acquired in the Stewart deal, went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI.

The Rockies (1-1-1) are still on the road, as they travel to face the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. MT.

Cactus League 2012: Rockies Hit The Road To Face Cubs

The Colorado Rockies are on the road to face the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday afternoon. The Rockies spent the first two games of the Cactus League at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick and went 1-0-1 against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Ben Paulsen played the hero on Monday with a walkoff home run in the bottom of the ninth for the 6-5 victory.

On Tuesday, the Rockies have their travel squad lineup against the Cubs. Four expected Opening Day starters (Dexter Fowler, Michael Cuddyer, Ramon Hernandez and Casey Blake (his first game of the spring)) are in the lineup today.

Guillermo Moscoso, acquired in the Seth Smith trade from the Oakland Athletics, makes his Rockies debut. He is heavily favored to win the No. 5 spot in the rotation. He and the rest of the Rockies can be heard through MLB.com Gameday Audio for the WGN call (if you aren't in Chicago). First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. MT.

Here is the Rockies' lineup for today, courtesy of the Denver Post's Patrick Saunders:

Diamondbacks Vs. Rockies Final Score: Ben Paulsen Plays Hero In 6-5 Victory With Walkoff Home Run

The Colorado Rockies picked up their first win of Spring Training with a walkoff home run by Ben Paulsen during the first at-bat of the bottom of the ninth. The final score was 6-5 over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Paulsen's shot was a line drive to right field, a no-doubter.

It was a sloppy game for both teams, though the Diamondbacks committed four of the six errors. Jhoulys Chacin, however, was burned by Chad Tracy's throwing error in the bottom of the first inning since it allowed two unearned runs to score. Chacin labored in his first start of the spring, allowing three total runs in two innings. Gerardo Parra hit a home run off him in the second inning and had a sharp double to start the game. Chacin was able to get out of a bases-loaded situation that he got himself into after a walk to crowd the diamond.

Uber-prospect Nolan Arenado and Jonathan Herrera each hit back-to-back RBI doubles to tie the game at three after the second inning. Chad Tracy made up for his throwing gaffe by driving a run in on a sacrifice fly. However, the lead didn't last for too long since Ryan Roberts and Chris Owings hit home runs off Joe Gardner and Carlos Torres to take a 5-4 lead by the end of the top of the eighth inning.

Brendan Harris tied the game at five when he picked up a single and then saw Chris Owings both the throw to first base. That allowed Chris Nelson to score from second base, having reached on a single and then moving over to second on a Wilin Rosario single.

Christian Friedrich made his spring debut and looked like, well, a pitcher. He struck out two and allowed zero runs over two innings after replacing Chacin.

The Rockies visit the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday at 1:05 p.m. MT.

Diamondbacks Vs. Rockies: Can Arizona And Colorado Not Finish In A Tie?

The Colorado Rockies and the Arizona Diamondbacks return to the diamond at Salt River Field at Talking Stick on Monday afternoon. The two teams began the 2012 Cactus League on Saturday with a 1-1 10-inning tie game. Drew Pomeranz drew the start for the Rockies and struck out two, but Trevor Bauer, last year's No. 3 overall pick, also pitched two scoreless innings and struck out two batters.

On Monday afternoon, the Rockies will have Jhoulys Chacin on the mound for the first time this spring. After a bit of verbal sparring with general manager Dan O'Dowd, Chacin is out to show that he is dedicated to improving his baseball game. His main issue is reducing the number of walks he issues, a problem that especially plagued him last season. Christian Friedrich is expected to pitch in this game after Chacin, reports Thomas Harding.

First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. MT. MLB.com will have streaming audio of the game.

This was the original lineup for the day, but Troy Tulowitzki was a late scratch after the team announced he was sick.

Diamondbacks Rockies
Gerardo Parra, CF Eric Young Jr., CF
Aaron Hill, 2B Marco Scutaro, 2B
Justin Upton, RF Carlos Gonzalez, LF
Paul Goldschmidt, DH Troy Tulowtizki, SS
Lyle Overbay, 1B Jason Giambi, DH
Ryan Roberts, 3B Jordan Pacheco, C
Marc Krauss, LF Charlie Blackmon, RF
Henry Blanco, C Nolan Arenado, 3B
John McDonald, SS Chad Tracy, 1B
Daniel Hudson, P Jhoulys Chacin, P

Diamondbacks Vs. Rockies Final Score: Arizona, Colorado End Game In 1-1 10-Inning Tie

Yes, there are ties in baseball -- well, at least in Spring Training (and the 2002 MLB All-Star Game, but that's an event we no longer want to think about). For the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Colorado Rockies, Saturday's game at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick ended in a 1-1 tie after 10 innings.

To get the scoring out of the way, the Diamondbacks struck first when they batted in the fourth inning. Paul Goldschmidt worked a walk against Josh Outman and then advanced to third base on a Geoff Blum double. Gerardo Parra drove in Goldschmidt, but third baseman Nolan Arenado made a diving play along the left field line, got the ball in his glove and then fired it off to first to get the out.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Carlos Gonzalez and Troy Tulowitzki went down to start the inning. Michael Cuddyer drew a walk to keep the inning alive and then advanced to second on a balk (though he would have been picked off if that call was not made). Tyler Colvin followed with a walk. With runners on first and second, Ramon Hernandez singled to left field to score Cuddyer, a result of Jason Kubel being unable to make a successful play on the board. And thus the scoring came to an end.

Hernandez had two of the team's four hits, the other two coming off the sticks of Charlie Blackmon and Wil Nieves. The Diamondbacks were able to get one hit or more off each Rockies pitcher except for Zach Putnam. He allowed zero of the Diamondbacks' hits.

Drew Pomeranz allowed a hit, walked one and struck out two in two innings of work. His opposition, Trevor Bauer, handled the Rockies in the first inning with just seven pitches. He went one more inning to finish with two innings pitched, two strikeouts and zero runs allowed.

The Rockies (0-0-1) return to the Cactus League schedule on Monday with another game against the Diamondbacks.
