Diamondbacks Vs. Rockies: Back From Birth Of Son, Jason Hammel Makes A Spot Start

The Colorado Rockies enter Tuesday's contest with an elimination number of seven. That's seven for the combined number of wins the D'Backs need and the losses the Rockies can take before they are eliminated from winning the division. And that number is six for the wild card.

The Rockies turn to Jason Hammel (7-13, 5.15 ERA), who is making a spot start in replace of Jhoulys Chacin. Hammel just came off paternity leave for the birth of his son on Friday, which also happens to be his own birthday. He was moved to the bullpen when Alex White joined the Rockies.

Hammel has gone 0-2 with a 3.48 ERA in four appearances (three starts) against the Diamondbacks this season. He did throw a scoreless inning of relief against them last week, but he was shelled for eight runs in his last start while in the desert.

Josh Collmenter (9-8, 3.18 ERA) makes back-to-back starts against the Rockies. He threw six innings of two-run ball last week for the 5-2 win over the Rockies in Arizona. That capped an August in which Collmenter went 3-2 with a 3.41 ERA in August. In five of his six starts he allowed two or fewer runs, and in the sixth one he allowed six runs (it came at the start of August).
