Rockies Vs. Brewers: Carlos Gonzalez, Wilin Rosario Homer In 6-2 Victory Over Milwaukee

The Colorado Rockies picked themselves up on Wednesday evening with a 6-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers. The outcome of this game was rarely in doubt as the pitching was strong all nine innings. This was the team's first win at Miller Park in 2011.

Kevin Millwood (3-2, 3.68 ERA) went six inning and allowed two runs. The first came in the first inning after Corey Hart hit a leadoff triple and then scored on a Nyjer Morgan ground out. Then in the sixth inning, Nyjer Morgan led off with a single and moved to third on a single and a ground out. Morgan then scored on a Millwood wild pitch.

That was all the Brewers could do. Matt Belisle, Huston Street, Rex Brothers and Rafael Betancourt kept the Brewers off the board for the final three innings.

The Rockies' offense got to Shaun Marcum (12-7, 3.40 ERA) for three straight innings. In the third inning, Dexter Fowler reached on a fielder's choice and then scored on a Mark Ellis single to center field. Ellis then scored on Carlos Gonzalez's 26th home run on the season (he added a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning). One inning later, Wilin Rosario homered to left field for his second career home run. Jason Giambi completed the scoring with an RBI double in the fifth inning.

The Rockies (70-78, 32-42 away) start the final homestand of the season with a series against the San Francisco Giants.

Rockies Vs. Brewers: Colorado Searches For Victory After Losing In Walkoff Fashion

The Colorado Rockies were victims of the long ball in Tuesday night's 2-1 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. Matt Lindstrom served up a leadoff walkoff home run to Ryan Braun in the 11th inning to lose the game. It was similar to the Rockies' previous walkoff loss in Milwaukee back in May.

With the loss yesterday and an Atlanta Braves victory, the Rockies were eliminated from the wild card hunt officially. But Kevin Millwood (2-2, 3.79 ERA) is still going to go out there and pitch for a victory. He just threw his worst start of his short major league season. The Arizona Diamondbacks put four runs on the board in his 5-2/3 innings. He allowed 10 hits (one home run) in that appearance. Just the start before that, Millwood pitched seven shutout innings and struck out eight while on the mound against the Dodgers.

Shaun Marcum (12-6, 3.25 ERA) has thrown his last two starts similarly compared to Kevin Millwood's, He More recently, the Phillies touched him up for five runs in 6-2/3 innings while in the start before he threw a seven shutout innings of one-hit ball against the Astros. Against the Rockies this season, Marcum is 2-0 with a 2.08 ERA in 13 innings. In May he allowed one run in eight innings against the Rockies, winning his sixth game of the season.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:10 p.m. MT.

Rockies Vs. Brewers Final Score: Ryan Braun Hits Walkoff Home Run For 2-1 Victory

As the Root announcers said at the end of the game, you can't blame this one on Felipe Paulino. Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun hit a walkoff home run in the bottom of the 11th inning to defeat the Colorado Rockies, 2-1. Back in May, Paulino had allowed a walkoff home to Prince Fielder.

Matt Lindstrom served up the offending ball to Braun, who was the first batter of the inning. It was his 28th home run of the season. Prince Fielder tied the game in the sixth inning with his 32nd home run.

That home run was the only run Esmil Rogers allowed in six innings of work. He allowed five hits, struck out four and walked four. The bullpen relief of Matt Belisle, Rex Brothers and Huston Street didn't allow any hits over the next three innings, though the former two did walk a batter each.

In the fourth inning, Seth Smith doubled to deep center field to start the frame. After a Jordan Pacheco strikeout, Wilin Rosario doubled to left, scoring Smith. The team, though, was 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position. Zack Greinke labored throughout this game, reaching 100 pitches in four innings. But he did strike out nine Rockies in five innings.

The Rockies (69-78, 31-42 away) finish this series on Wednesday night. Kevin Millwood and Shaun Marcum are the scheduled starters.
