Rockies Vs. Dodgers Final Score: Colorado Wins Again On Sunday

After finally breaking through last week with a victory on Sunday, the Colorado Rockies followed that up this Sunday with a second victory. However, the Rockies had to contend with a late rally by the Dodgers for a 7-6 victory.

The Rockies jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first inning after some shaky defense by right fielder Trent Oeltjen. Troy Tulowitzki already had the Rockies up, 1-0, when Kevin Kouzmanoff doubled to right field on a ball that Oeltjen failed to place in his glove. He cleared the loaded set of bases for a 4-0 lead. Eliezer Alfonzo followed by sending Kouzmanoff across home plate.

Jhoulys Chacin (11-10, 3.60 ERA) allowed two runs in the bottom of the first inning, but then kept the Dodgers off the board until the sixth inning. Chacin walked three batters to start the sixth before he was pulled for Matt Reynolds. That didn't help, though the damage was limited to runs scored on a ground out and a sacrifice fly. The Rockies led, 7-4, as Kouzmanoff and Seth Smith drove in two runs in the fifth inning.

Matt Lindstrom came in for the seventh inning and wound up allowing RBI plays to Aaron Miles on a double and to Trent Oeltjen on a single. Rex Brothers and Rafael Betancourt shut down the Dodgers in the eighth and ninth innings.

The Rockies (64-70, 29-37 away) head to Arizona for a three-game series with the Diamondbacks. Alex White makes his second start for the Rockies and opposes Daniel Hudson.

Colorado Rockies Out To Start A Sunday Winning Streak With Game Against Los Angeles Dodgers

The Colorado Rockies took an early lead against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday, but Rafael Betancourt allowed a home run to James Loney in the ninth inning to tie the game at sixth. In the 11th inning, Matt Kemp won the game for the Dodgers with a solo shot against Jason Hammel.

The Rockies enter Sunday's game having won last Sunday, the first time since April. They will not want to revert to their old ways. They will have Jhoulys Chacin (10-10, 3.49 ERA) on the mound to continue that success. On July 26, Chacin took the loss in a 3-2 contest against the Dodgers in Los Angeles. On Monday, Chacin had a start in which scattering is the correct term for what he did. He allowed 11 hits but just one run in seven innings.

Nathan Eovaldi (1-1, 2.05 ERA) is making just his fifth career start. He came up on Aug. 6 and defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks after allowing two runs in five innings. On Aug. 22, he received a no-decision after allowing one run in five innings against the St. Louis Cardinals. He runs his fastball up to the mid-90s and works with a curveball and a changeup as well.

First pitch is scheduled for 2:10 p.m. MT.

Rockies Vs. Dodgers: Matt Kemp Hits Walkoff Home Run To Send Colorado To 7-6 Loss

The Colorado Rockies could have had this game all wrapped up had Rafael Betancourt not allowed a home run to James Loney in the top of the ninth. It was his first blown save since he assumed closer's duties. The Rockies took the game into the bottom of the 11th inning, but with one out in the bottom of the inning Jason Hammel served up the game-ending home run to Matt Kemp.

Troy Tulowitzki smacked two home runs, Nos. 27 and 28, both two-run shots. The latter one put the Rockies up, 6-5, in the seventh inning. Tulowitzki is now four home runs shy of tying his career high of 32 in 2009. He still has one month-plus left to break that record. He is also six RBI away from his career high of 99 in 2007, his rookie season.

Carlos Gonzalez also helped the offense with two RBI singles over the third and fourth innings. Kevin Kouzmanoff collected two hits, his first as a Rockies. But in the sixth inning he and Chris Iannetta each committed an error, allowing the first two Dodgers runs to score. Three more runs scored that inning.

Kevin Millwood was charged with the first two runs, though Matt Belisle was already pitching in relief when those runs scored. Belisle was charged with three runs but only one earned due to the errors. Rex Brothers finished the inning by striking out Trent Oeltjen, who began the inning as a pinch-hitter for Chad Billingsley. The Dodgers starter allowed four runs on 10 hits in six innings.

The Rockies (63-70, 28-37 away) end this series on Sunday afternoon at 2:10 p.m. MT. Nathan Eovaldi and Jhoulys Chacin are the scheduled starters.

Rafael Betancourt Remains As Closer Even With Huston Street Back

Huston Street has 29 saves for the Colorado Rockies in 2011, but after his recent trip to the disabled list he hasn't jumped right back into the closer's position. Rafael Betancourt will remain the team's closer for the time being, reports the Denver Post.

Street returned to Rockies on Friday in Los Angeles after recovering from a strained right triceps muscle. He's blown three saves this season and had a bit of a rough stretch in August, allowing a five runs over three innings. After he went on the disabled list, Street saw Rafael Betancourt take over duties in the ninth inning. In six appearances, Betancourt allowed zero runs on one hit in six innings. He picked up three saves during that span.

Betancourt's role as closer isn't a permanent one, though. Manager Jim Tracy plans to gradually work Street back into the role--that is, if Betancourt doesn't keep up his recent performance.

Rockies Vs. Dodgers: Kevin Millwood, Chad Billingsley Lead Afternoon Duel

The Colorado Rockies and the Los Angeles Dodgers take to the park for an afternoon ball game on FOX.

Kevin Millwood (1-1, 4.50 ERA) makes his fourth start of the season for the Rockies since being picked up as a free agent. He's thrown seven innings in two of his three starts and picked up the win in his last start. it was a seven-inning, four-strikeout performance against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Coors Field. He allowed three runs in the 5-3 victory. He is 3-1 with a 2.31 ERA in four career starts at Dodger Stadium. However, they came between 1998-2000, which is far too long ago to take anything from.

Chad Billingsley (10-10, 4.07 ERA) was Millwood's opposition in that Aug. 21 start at Coors Field. He fell one out short of recording an eight-inning complete game loss. He walked five and struck out seven in the loss, in addition to allowing all five runs. He has two other loss at Coors Field this season, but his May 30 start in Los Angeles against the Dodgers might be meaningful. He allowed one run and scattered 11 hits over seven innings for the 7-1 victory over the Rockies.

First pitch is scheduled for 2:10 p.m. MT.
