Diamondbacks Vs. Rockies: Colorado Regroups After Splitting Doubleheader

It certainly is not the best of times for the Colorado Rockies. Not only did the Rockies lose Tuesday's nightcap, but right before that game it was announced that pitcher Jorge De La Rosa suffered a torn UCL in his left elbow, ending his 2011 season most part of 2012.

Splitting the doubleheader combined with a San Francisco Giants loss made up half a game in the standings, but that's little comfort with uncertainty surrounding the team.

Arizona's starter is Ian Kennedy, who has two no-decisions in two starts against the Rockies this year. He drew the Opening Day assignment on April 1 and allowed four runs in six innings. A month later, he went six more innings and allowed two runs. However, the Rockies won both games. Kennedy enters this start with two straight wins, though his last start saw him allow four runs in 7.2 innings. His 3.24 ERA (3.10 FIP, 3.35 xFIP) has been helped by increasing his ground ball rate to 40 percent (up three percent) and stranding 72 percent of base runners.

Jason Hammel was in line for the win last Friday against the Brewers--that is until Rafael Betancourt served up the game-tying home run in the eighth inning. It was a decent start for Hammel, allowing three runs in 6.2 innings. It was a nice bounce back from his previous two starts, which saw him allow 10 runs combined.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. MT.
