Diamondbacks Vs. Rockies: Joe Saunders Corrals Colorado In 5-2 Victory

After learning that Jorge De La Rosa will be out for the rest of the year and part of 2012, the Colorado Rockies dropped the second game of their doubleheader to the Arizona Diamondbacks, 5-2. A particularly tough sixth inning for the Rockies' Jhoulys Chacin let the Diamondbacks take command of the game.

Entering the sixth inning, Chacin had allowed two runs, one on a Kelly Johnson homer in the first inning and a Xavier Nady RBI ground out. After a leadoff walk in the sixth, Kelly Johnson struck again with an RBI double. Stephen Drew doubled in Johnson, which eventually led to Miguel Montero doubling in Drew for a 5-1 lead. Chacin (5-3) finished seven innings, allowed five runs, walked two and struck out five.

For the Rockies, Jason Giambi smacked his sixth home run of the season in the second inning. The Rockies put up their next (and last) run on the board in the seventh inning on Ty Wigginton's third home run in 2011. Joe Saunders kept the Rockies in check for two runs over eight innings.

The Rockies (24-23, 12-11 home) resume this series with the Diamondbacks on Wednesday night at 6:40 p.m. MT. Jason Hammel and Ian Kennedy are the scheduled starters.
