Report: Rockies, Matt Daley Reach Contract Agreement

Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that the Colorado Rockies and Matt Daley, who is pre-arbitration eligible, have agreed on a new contract:

Rockies have agreed to terms on pre-arb contract w Matt Daley. He will make 422,000K in majors and $236K if in minorsless than a minute ago via TweetDeck

Daley had a 4.24 ERA and a 1.586 WHIP in 23 1/3 innings in 2010. In the middle of June he went down with an inflamed right shoulder and then returned in September, only to make two appearances. Daley was a bit unlucky in 2010 with a .343 BABIP (Batting Average on Balls In Play), which led to an inflated WHIP. He did, however, see his ground ball to fly ball ratio increase to 0.9.

He will compete for a spot in the bullpen during spring training, but there’s no guarantee he will make the final 25-man roster. The split contract he signed will help the team’s payroll slightly if he is sent to Colorado Springs.

Daley was signed by the Rockies as an amateur free agent in 2004 after no team selected him in the June draft. Daley made his major league debut in 2009 with the Rockies.
