MLS Standings 2012: Rapids Stuck At Last Place In Western Conference

The Colorado Rapids' loss to the Portland Timbers saw them get knocked out by the only team below them in the Western Conference standings. Portland was only two points behind the Rapids at the time, and the loss vaulted the Rapids to the very bottom in the West. Only Toronto FC has fewer points than the Rapids do in Major League Soccer, with Colorado sitting only five points ahead of the Reds.

Fortunately for the Rapids, they'll get a chance for revenge as well as a chance to get back into seventh place in the West when they face the Timbers again for a rematch at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Wednesday.

Timbers Vs. Rapids Final Score: Rapids Can't Find Offense, Fall 1-0

The Portland Timbers (7-13-6) used a goal late in the first half to beat the Colorado Rapids (8-17-2) 1-0, Friday night in Portland.

Most of the first half was rough and relatively slow before Timbers' Bright Dike scored on a cross from Sal Zizzo in the game's 45th minute. The Rapids failed to score in the second half, resulting in the eighth time they've been shut out this season. While Colorado managed 12 shots on goal, only 4 of those were on target.

The loss put Colorado one point behind Portland for last place in the Western Conference. The two teams play the second game of their home and home series Wednesday at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
